After the way Toyota has been treated in this country the last year, I cannot believe they didn't do this sooner............

MAPLEWOOD - Toyota operates union plants in Japan. So why did the company deliberately close its only union plant in the U.S. in April?
Workers at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant in St. Paul want an answer to that question – and until they get one, they intend to demonstrate outside Toyota dealerships in the Twin Cities, putting a spotlight on the company’s record when it comes to safety and workers’ rights.

The first of those actions took place June 4 outside Maplewood Toyota, at the busy intersection of Beam Avenue and Highway 61. A dozen Ford workers and supporters held signs imploring passing drivers to “Honk 4 People B4 Profits” – and plenty of them did just that."

Toyota is closing its plant because its sales are down. It reputation as putting out the most reliable car on the road has been tarnished. Even they realize that it going be long time before they get that back. Honda and Ford are now fighting over that reputation.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the UAW. The ridiculous wages that we pay them are the root cause of the demise of the American auto industry. The only union that I can side with is the UMW. They deserve everything they get....and more.

Having dealt first hand with the UAW for many years, before my plant was closed, both in customer plants and my own, all I can say to them is....

"How do you like them now? "

The recently-crowned king of the United Auto Workers, President Bob King, has a monumental task before him: reverse the decades-long decline in UAW membership. To do that the UAW will likely need to make inroads at transplant automaker plants, and to accomplish this goal King promises to be more active in staging demonstrations than in the past, and an early target is Toyota and California. Automotive News reports that the UAW is organizing protests in front of several Toyota dealerships in the Golden State to draw attention to the recently closed NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA.
