Triple Crown races come and go....but the Monmouth experiment is the only thing that looks promising for some form of growth. Yesterday's attendance at Monmouth was over 15,000. That is a big deal considering it was Belmont Stakes Day and that Belmont is only an hour and a half away. This is the big story of the day.

I think the bigger story was the NJ was unable to provide wagering on all races to it's captive customers.

That's an issue....but the fact that they were still able to attract that number of people with huge competition with in driving distance speaks volumes for the product. They just have to make sure they deliver that product.

It's great people are showing up but the problem is that Belmont had 3 times as many people on track but ten times the on track betting. Would be able to say same number of races to make a good comparison, but the tote blew up and Monmouth lost one so the disparity may have only been around 3-1. This bold experiment may be helping the ADWs more than anything.
