I understand that owners are 'forced' to give a certain percentage of the purse they win to the trainer on top of his day rate. Is this percentage fixed by the racetracks or can an owner 'bargain' with a trainer to get that percentage lowered?

I know that some real estate agents have been known to tell sellers that they'll work for 'less' commission than the 'going rate', just wondering if this goes on in horse racing?

This could also work with jocks agents who are trying to get a top rider, they might offer to work for less than the 'going rate' to get the business.

I would think this goes on a lot, but i've never really heard any examples...i guess its all going on behind the scenes.

(oops, sorry, posted this in the wrong forum)
