Can I post something in this thread not in the form of a question?

The only question is whether Belmont will double or triple Monmouth Saturday. Obviously only 11 was so wrapped in his Monmouth hype machine that he forgot that Saturday was Belmont Stakes Day.

Belmont's Saturday card has Mth already beaten in one area: they have more 5 horse fields than Monmouth.

Double or triple?I am sorry I did not check last years belmont stakes days numbers. I should have said 9x? or 10x ?. Last years handle on belmont stakes day was $89,222,301.

Wow, a shot to NYRA. How original. Ironically the ONE 5 horse field they have came up a pretty interesting betting race.

The first of many, I suspect, over the next two-and-a-half days.

We all want the handle at every track to do well, I will bet both on Saturday.

There are TWO races with five betting interests. Bettors would be wise to never bet a 5 horse field again in their life.

Just curious, has Monmouth had any five horse fields this meet ( I know, it's early, but I'm just curious )?

There have been 2...both stakes...both on Monday 5/31, the 3rd race, the Just Smashing Stakes and the 10th, the Eatontown (GIII). FWIW, didn't notice any six horse fields at all.

It's one thing to have a 5 horse field of $15K N2L's and it's another when it's one of the two most important mile grass races in the country for F&M's. They put up $400k and a G1 and nobody showed up (it certainly doesn't help that there was a G1 last weekend at 9F at HOL- whereas at least one would have been a starter here- and a 1 mile G2 on the same day at WOX that would have had 2-4 runners for the race.) What are they supposed to do, cancel the race? Because the trainers are pussies and not willing to take a shot? And in the case of the Woody Stephens, WTF are any of these trainers without a runner thinking? If I had a 3YO with ANY talent I'd take a shot here- the favorite is a certified nutcase almost certain to melt down with the big crowd, and the second choice was dreadful in his last race. The other three are OK but nothing special.

I don't get why this has become a huge pissing match between Belmont and Monmouth. We should be rooting for them both to succeed because these are the facilities we need to survive into the future.

I don't get it either. New York and California are the elite racing locations. The only important comparison for Monmouth 2010 is to Monmouth 2009 and before.

You didn't say betting interests. You said horses.

I want to point out I'm not "rooting against" Belmont in any way. They still have an excellent product but to hear comments (on another well known racing site) that Saturday's Belmont card is the best betting card of the year is just outlandish. I'm not knocking any of those P4 stakes but do they really need to card 13 races? Could we do without the 15K nw2 lifetime? How many once a year types are going to stick around and bet the two races after the Belmont?
