Equidaily reports his retirement was recently announced. Solid journeyman rider

They had a few seconds of his announcement on MSG+ today during the show of the Belmont stakes draw. He was in a neck brace, so it was most probably medically necessary to reitre. I hope he can find himself a nice position in horseracing to keep him involved in the sport he loves.

I missed the draw...fact is, I need to catch up on the pre Belmont programs...
the Mig in a neckbrace is not a surprise, but it sure makes ya sad for the man. he is such a class act...and he's well spoken and smart...if there is any other part of the industry he'd like to work in, I have no doubt many folks within the industry will give him a shot.
I wish his all the best, and hope he can get outta that neck brace soon.
Wish we had more like him.

1) He's 46 years old.
2) All jockeys need neckbraces DURING races for protection. Can be sewn into silks. Good PR also!

he broke his neck (again) in January, had surgery to fuse some vertebrae and was advised to hang up his silks. liked him alot, hope he finds something that makes him happy.

If you haven't seen it, worth a few minutes to listen the The Mig say farewell. Brought tears to my eyes...I can imagine how these guys feel when they are forced to retire...it's a heartbreaker.
he says some wonderful things, especially about the horses...and he reminds everyone, that IS the game...the horses...he goes on to say he'll be involved with rescue, because these horses deserve our respect and to kepp their dignity.

What a calls act this man is. Again...he'll be missed by all.

Thanks for the Youtube link Joanied.
Mig was always a class act and wasnt a "primadonna"
when it came to interacting with the fans.

When I still lived in NY I recall the kids asking the jockeys for goggles
and Mig was usually obliging and was never a DICK like Eddie Maple
