Ottawa kids soccer league stops blowout wins

A team that wins a soccer game by more than five goals will be declared the loser in an Ottawa children's recreational soccer league.

The new policy of the Gloucester Dragons Recreational Soccer league takes the fun out of the game, complains 17-year-old Kevin Cappon, one of 3,000 players in the league's 200 teams for children and youth aged five to 18.

Maybe they should do the same for horse racing. If you beat the other horses by more than 5 lengths, you lose!

Goes to show the extent socialists in denial will go to defy Reality.

Also goes to show how out of touch I am with the Simpsons.

I had no idea this was a fictional character until I Googled him.

No doubt the result of the Lances, Trevors, and Devons of the world crying on soccer mom Paiges shoulder on the way home in the mini-van, I can hear it now:

Lance - "Oh Ms. Paige, we were so dreadfully humiliated in the match with that overly aggresive bunch of hooligans from the wrong side of town". My psyche is crushed, I am a failure" (much sobbing in the background)

Trevor - "Please speak to commisioner Niceferry about having pity on us. If not, I may grow up having low self -esteem and end up a failure in life. (begins texting all his friends for support)

Devon -" I'm so ashamed for my family - I will never be able to look my parents, Mary and her mate Sarah, in the eyes again. What will Sarah think, that I'm less of a man than he ? oh the pain, the pain". (passes out from the sheer emotion of it all).

Why not just end the game? Soccer is boring anyway. Imagine how boring it would be if one team is just passing the ball back and forth with no intention of scoring.
The idea that losing a game by a large margin will be permanently damaging to a childs psyche is nonsense. If you don't want to be humiliated, play better. If you can't play better, practice more and listen to your coaches. If that doesn't help, try another sport. Or maybe you are just not an athlete. There is no shame in that.
Anyone who plays a sport should do his/her best at all times. In a team sport, given a large lead, the sporting thing is to play those players who don't normally get a chance to play, but those players should NOT be instructed to take it easy on the other team. That is insulting to the other team. That doesn't mean you should full court press in a basketball game or run a two minute drill in a football game.

His real name is Armen Tamzarian. He stole the Skinner name from a guy he served in Vietnam with.
Sorry, just a lil Simpsons trivia for ya :) , which by the way I am an EXPERT at.

You're against teachers unions because of a cartoon character? That goes in my goofy reasons Hall of Fame.

     I nearly fell on the floor. You have actually written something with which I agree. (Armageddon must be around the corner, so God has shown me one more miracle before the Final Act.)

Now, all you gotta do is consistently apply that philosophy outside athletics -- in the private sector where people compete against one another daily for their daily bread. If you could do that, you'd be a conservative in no time flat.

Remember, Judge Snyder granted Tamzarian Skinner's "name, and his past, present, future, and mother", and decreed that no one will mention his true identity again "under penalty of torture".

Be careful out there! You are in deep trouble with fictional yellow line drawn people now!

To WATCH, I agree! Soccer is better than Ambian - less sleepwalking!

It isn't boring to play when they are allowed to play. But wih PC "everybody's a winner" rules - why bother?

And from a personal perspective, as a larger person, it was fun when someone would run into me and end up on their keester!

The everybody is winner is a bit absurd. But so is the win at any cost that some parents push on their kids at an early age. When I was kid, we use to play unorganized sandlot football and basketball. We choose up sides and play. We didn't keep score, but when things got a little lopsided, we would stop and choose again. That was a lot more fun than when we got a bit older and the adults got involved.

I think the biggest problems with organized youth sports are that they are (a) organized (b) by adults.

Alas, the helicopter parents have NO IDEA how harmful they are to their children's future ability to think and act independently. As for the "make up for the failures of my own life through my kids" crowd...I don't EVEN want to send my blood pressure there!

The big problem with the "win at any cost" philosophy is that it doesn't stress the importance of morality and ethics in the competitive setting. There's nothing wrong with competing hard -- competing to win this, that or some other thing, providing the competitive attitude is balanced with healthy doses of ethics.

Coaches in the league can help by just playing the game the way it is supposed to be played.

Kids are smart. Just because the "snack list" mom's declare the team who is whitewashed by 5 the winner, doesn't mean the kids or anyone is buying it.

I just got back from the Tigers vs Indians. Tigers 12 Indians 6! Saw-wheat! :D :jump:

But according to the Ottawa soccer moms, Detroit lost because they caused the fragile psyches of the Cleveland players great harm by piling on the runs.

NY passes students who get wrong answers on tests

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/how_do_you_pass_ny_school_tests_tCqFKo40FhcwkO5SoP YWRI

When does 2 + 2 = 5?

When you're taking the state math test.

Despite promises that the exams -- which determine whether students advance to the next grade -- would not be dumbed down this year, students got "partial credit" for wrong answers after failing to correctly add, subtract, multiply and divide. Some got credit for no answer at all.

"They were giving credit for blatantly wrong things," said an outraged Brooklyn teacher who was among those hired to score the fourth-grade test.

( snip )

We can't hurt anyone's self-esteem just because they look at math problems from "outside the box" and arrive at unique solutions!

"How do numbers make you feel? What does a plus sign smell like? Is the number 7 odd or just different?"
