It was one of those days at the track I won't soon forget.
Beautiful sunny day--some winners and Quality Road did his thing.
Here are some snap-shots from a very Memorable Met Mile on Memorial Day.
(Pictures Would Have Been Much Sharper If There Was Sun)

He's just one thing.... smooth. No two things.... strong and smooth. No three things.... professional, strong and smooth. No four things... full of heart, professional, strong and smooth. I know, I'm schmalzy. I just love watching him. Of course did I go to OTB the one time I had a chance to a win an exotic... no. Nice pictures!!!!

 Stevie B...great pics, my man...thanks for posting (by the way, you have Warrior's Reward under a pic of Tizway;) )....

How did you get the shots of the Grandstand from the turn for home? I love those...when I was working there, you couldn't get to that place on the grounds...what has changed?
I also see apartment complex in the background through the trees that wasn't there...and, when did they put in a pond at the picnic area? It's beautiful, but it wasn't there 'back then' either!
The trees along the backstretch have been there almost as long as the big tree in the walking ring...is there anything back there now? I used to run my dog back there after work, and it's where I watched the Foolish Pleasure-Ruffian Match Race.
Is there still a dinner across the street from the Main Gate on Hempstead Av?

One more nostalgic question...just down from the Main gate, on a corner...can't recall the cross street...maybe Hempstead Av & Franklin B'lvd....there was a movie theater there, called the Argo...is it still there?

Thanks, Stevie.
OH...any idea of how many showed up for the races on Monday?

Argo is gone, burnt down and changed hands many times since(dollar stores etc. chopped up). Diner is still there. You haven't been around for quite some time it seems. A good thing I hope. :)

Sansui....thanks for answering my questions about the Argo & the dinner...a lot of cool memories from that movie theater...I can't remember the name of the dinner...maybe 'Belmont' dinner...it was one of those silver dinners like back in the day...man, they had a super breakfast, we'd sit and read the form over eggs, bacon & home fries...I also can't remember the name of the man that owned it, no doubt he's long gone...but it was the place to be after the morning work was done.

Yes, it's been a very long time...I left in the late 70's...but I can still put myself back there...the sights, sounds and smell of the backside are still vivid for me....but I can see, a lot has changed.

I went to Elmont Memorial High School...I'm sure that is still there:)

Attendance was 9,386. Seemed like there was a lot of room. The backyard was pretty crowded.

If the sun had shined more late, those pics would have been more vivid. I only use a tiny Fuji digital camera. I'm just a horseplayer with a camera. Never considered myself a photographer.

These are what my pictures look like—from a horseplayer with a camera.

Well, Stevie, you done good with a little digital camera!!

Less than 10,000 people there...that is rather depressing...geeze :faint: ...I'm thinking they will be lucky to get 50,000 there for the Belmont...and that really sucks.
My heart is still somewhere on the backside of Belmont...and I take this spiral down in attendance, and the state of racing in general in NY very badly.
When I was there, 10,000 showed up mid week...those were the days!

Nice photos…thanks for sharing!

In the photo “Headed For The Winner’s Circle”, is the large guy in the blazer Edward Evans or his racing manager? I frequently notice him in the photo when an Evans horse wins a stake, regardless of who the trainer is.

Not that often you see the Owner (or his rep) grab the reins and lead the horse in. But the Evans team seem to have their own agenda; my guess is they’re pretty liberal with their “input” to the trainer as to what should happen.

Stevie you must have been standing right next to me in the paddock before the race and then when he came back after the race.

Yea I was zipping between the paddock and front before and after the Met Mile. Tried to get as many decent shots QR as I could.

Last time he will be around these parts--possibly.

Thanks for the words peeps.
