Another big day Sat 5/29 at Monmouth with plenty of value for the players.

Handle was $9,352,256

Pick 5 for 50 cents at Monmouth may just be the best value bet in racing .

Pick 5 pool was $216,565

Pick 5 paid $5104 for 50 cents.

The prices for the pick 5 winning horses were 25.20-5.80-11.80-9.20-9.20.

It paid 2.25 times parlay.

That's within the normal range for a 4-6 leg wager, though the Magna 5's avg parlay multiplier is much higher than 2.25.

i was looking at the 6th race, a maiden event and saw all kinds of money in those pools. of course i had no idea how to get any of it, but still it was a breath of fresh air to see that race do over a million in handle for that race alone. the only bet that i could come up with for that race was pletcher's horse to show, i bet $1000 to show and got $2.40 back. last year that bet would have only brought back $2.10 and would not have been worth making.

this meet will pick up some momentum and the saturday handles will surpass $10 million and will make the meet a big sucess.

Even though I did not hit the pick 5 on Sat. I did come up with the winner and the exacta in race 6.

The 7 horse Whoopi Kitten had a lot of positives going for her in this race and I was surprised that she paid $25.20 and keyed a nice $59.20 exacta with the 4/5 favorite.

1-You had MTH leading jockey of all times riding her, Jersey Joe Bravo.

2-Positive FTS breeding by Fusaichi Pegasus.

3-Excellent recent workout pattern at MTH.

4-A strong 5f workout at MTH 5 days ago in 100.2.

I hope I can find another one like her on Sunday.

A lot of people keep knocking this MTH meet instead of joining the fun and trying to pick up what I think is some easy money with plenty of opportunities.

This meet will break all records for a New Jersey track, and I will worry about next year when it gets here. I am a firm believer that you try to make the best of a good thing while it's here.

Good luck to all on Sun.:) :)

Does anyone have the percentage increase in handle over the same day last year?

With the three day format for racing at Monmouth each racing day is like an event. the biger fields, the much larger crowds and increased wagering pools. I am rooting for this 'experiment'.

Totally agree. I had a great day betting wise last Saturday but got killed on Sunday and yesterday. Still ahead for the meet but don't feel good about today's card.

Kelly Breen horses have been taking a lot of my money and they all seem to be "short". I have feeling that changes to the surface and the three day week have led to a surface that isn't so speed favoring as it once was. Maybe someone who is there can tell us about how they are maintaining the track. Do they renovate it Thursday? Will it get a little faster each day of the week and then get a little slower when Friday comes around?

Monmouth used to be "the speed highway"...inside speed and away you go! LOL.I would be interested in looking at the depth and cushion chart available.

The Saturday of Memorial Day weekend last year was 5/23. This was the sixth day of the meet. Monmouth had a 10-race card and handled $4,212,072...that's a 122% increase.

The actual third day of the meet last year was 5/16, it was an 11-race card and handle was $3,718,848, that's an increase of 151%

So far, so good.

Everything is right to keep this going. TVG having their best Analyst on the job at Monmouth can only help. Christina is one of the best. The others at TVG not so much.

Until Saratoga, Monmouth is basically the only track I'm playing. I'll play Belmont next Saturday but other than that, Mth deserves to get our wagering dollars.

they put a cushion bottom underneath the track this year, so it play's alot kinder than in the past. training wise i hear its great, for babies. i still like deleware better to train over.

Monmouth's card yesterday had to have been helped by Belmont's pathetic card.

Belmont's on-track handle was greater than Mth even though substantially fewer people. As I quickly reviewed the results files Hollyweird beat Mth's totals. Now I'm not sure what this means BUT it still gives us something to quantity/factor.

Its my anticipation that Mth numbers will fall off as we continue to monitor this experiment. To what extent and the significance is unknown to me, at this point.
