Racing Maxims and Methods of Pittsburg Phill - by Eward Cole (1908). For those who never read this can now see and print it from handicapping.com (home page, scroll down left side to Racing Maxims etc.50 pages). Since it was written in 1908 puts it in public domain and free of copyright restrictions. Publisher left out chapters 10 and 12 claimed they had nothing to with P.P.

Could have been written yesterday.

This is the only book on racing I have ever read cover to cover. That was in 1978 or 79.

Great read!! Much recommended!

Th old mantra of "coppering the public play" was a staple in the Pittsburgh Phil way of betting. It's amazing the disadvantages these bettors had years ago including hold back jockeys and other nefarious tricks that were much more prevelant in those days.

They had some advantages also in that there were virtually little printed past performances and a great deal competition amongst bookmakers on track.
