Interesting segment yesterday on Blinkers Off between Mike &Matt
on the MTH program of 1,000,000 per day for the first
50 days, including the trype of racing to be offered based on
the type of card offered today.

Second race consists of 5k claimers running for a 30k purse,NJ 50k md
claimers running for 40k, 15k claimers going for 38k, Md sp wt for 75k,
and several allowance races going for 80k

At the end of the day, the card is not much different with conditions&
the quality of horses associated with this track,
but the purses will create larger fields which in turn will attract
handicappers for value betting, rather than offer the quality fields
which compromise many of the racing offered at SAR.

That said, many handicappers won't give a hoot about quality, rather than
exotics, and where they feel they can "score".Add to that big name trainers and Jocks will be at MTH, and I believe this scenario will dramtically affect
the handle at NYRA tracks, PHA and KY for the first 50 days of
racing at MTH.
.

As an FYI, if MTH ever elected to install proper lighting and offered
night racing I seriously question if NYRA would survive. That said,
if NYRA could ever offer night/NOT twilight racing Wed through Friday
and afternoon racing on the weekends, their ability to withstand this
real threat would be bolstered.

Interesting days to follow.........

Interesting to see entry-level NJ Breds running for 70k+

I honestly haven't looked past Saturday's card.

Watchmaker's comments were specifically targeting the Jersey breds, and you can't argue with him on that point. But they pulled some decent fields for the open allowance and maiden races- take a look at some of the pedigrees and sale prices in the 7th.

Part of the challenge for Mth this year was that they tried to- had to I think- satisfy everyone because they made the change 2 months from the start of the meet. So they had to placate the local horsemen by paying these huge purses to pretty slow J-breds (I've never seen horses so slow running for so much $ as in today's 8th) because they nearly halved the number of opportunities for them to run. A more reasonable set up and one they could follow next year if this year works is to bring the j-bred races to more reasonable yet lucrative levels (say $45k maiden, $50k NW1X) and keep the open races at or near the current levels.

And to your point, as bad as the horses are in the 8th it is a pretty intriguing betting event.

True, this will be an interesting meet to review, especially if turns
out to be successful WITHOUT VLT"S.

Could be a useful model to NYRA if they still exist in early September :bang:
