For those harness fans not aware of it, free live video is available for the harness races from Alberta Downs at the link below, as well as video replays of previous days' races at this track:

http://www.asha.ab.ca/watchlive.html

--Alberta Downs is a dual-purpose, one mile oval located near Lacombe, Alberta. They are currently conducting a harness meet there on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday basis, starting at 1:00 PM (M.S.T.). People wanting to bet the races here, and don't want to attend the races in person or at an Alberta OTB site, don't have many options for ADWS carrying this harness meet. I know of only a couple of such ADWS currently offering wagering at Alberta Downs. They are PREMIER TURF CLUB and DAY AT THE TRACK.

--Even if a harness fan does have access to betting Alberta Downs, there is the small parimutuel handle at present to contend with. That may be a drawback for some bettors. Some may not care. I guess time will tell if the parimutuel handle will grow substantially.

--I'm still trying to figure out why the owner would want to start a major-sized racetrack, far from a major city like Edmonton or Calgary. Anyone got any guesses?

--Anyway, hope you enjoy watching some of the Alberta Downs harness races on free, live video.

Titans:

Thanks for the tip. Another ADW carrying the Alberta Downs signal is now added to the list.

He wants a casino

ITW:

You may be right. I never thought of that motive.

In my opinion, the citizens in each Alberta provincial voting district should be able to decide if they want a casino in their area via a plebiscite, not sleazy, incompetent provincial politicians. I believe that's the way they decide that kind of issue in some states in the USA. That's the way it should be, all over Canada and the USA.

Casino gambling causes too many social problems, especially amongst problem and pathological gambers, not to mention new, naive gamblers mesmerized by thoughts of instant riches. The newbies soon find out that casino games are programmed for regular players to lose in the long run. Unfortunately, some of these newbies get addicted to casino gambling and lose too much money, and in the process destroy their marriages, ruining family finances and numerous other social problems.

Several Alberta Downs harness cards in a row now, have been cancelled the past two weeks including yesterday. Allegedly, the cancellations were due to bad track conditions brought on by a lot of rain lately. If that's the case, I think they need to reconsider the composition of their track material.

I could have sworn they were using an all-weather track surface. :bang:

EDIT: Scratch that about BetAmerica, they dont take the signal. I could have sworn I saw their signal up on at least one ADW but now cant find it.

From what I was reading it is a 1 mile all weather surface with
a 7/8's turf course.

Alberta Downs will be conducting harness racing on Tues. May 25 and Wed. May 26 of this week, starting at 4:00 PM (M.S.T.). I guess it's to make up for some recent canceled cards due to poor track conditions.

I wouldn't even be surprised if Ray 2000, or other fine harness handicappers start listing some Alberta Downs harness selections in the HARNESS RACING FORUM soon. :)
