Quite the eye-popping disparity in payouts today at Finger Lakes between the P3 and P4; these are the odds of the Race 6-9 horses that came in..

6) 2.50
7) 13.70
8) 7.20
9) 2.85

$2 P3 payout: $706 Pool: $12,716

$2 P4 payout: $7,571 Pool: $27,765

Isn't that a startling disparity considering a 5-2 shot won the 6th?

I did not look at the FL card today, so I can not make an educated comment on payoff amounts.

But looking at the charts, I can make an uneducated comment. :D

The 5/2 shot in the 6th was actual the 3rd betting choice. In multi-race wagers like Pick 4's and Pick 6's wagering rank sometimes has more of an impact then the actual win odds, especially at tracks that have small pools.

So based on that alone, I do not think it the disparity is all that startling.

Keep in mind that win, Pick 3 and Pick 4 are all separate pools. You can't really say for sure whether a payoff is light or big by just comparing the payoffs.

it paid great. i had a pick 3 that paid huge about 20 years ago when they took a pick 3 from monmouth and belmont using 2 races at monmouth and 1 at belmont. the first winner at monmouth paid 5.40 the second winner paid 8.00 and the first time starter in belmont with a 20-1 moring line paid 3.20 to win. the pick 3 paid $1300. that was the only time i have ever done that in my entire life. i spent $12.00 and hit a $2.00 ticket.
