Summary - Congratulations to all participants. The 2010 Kentucky Derby Players' Pool purchased a total of $100,120 in tickets and had a total pre-tax return of $109,547.20 (net return after witholding taxes was $83,099.40). The Players' Pool hit a "chalky" Fortune-6 at Beulah Park (paid $3,750.40) and came within a 1/2 length of hitting all six (6) winners at Churchill Downs. However, with no six-of-six winning tickets, our two (2) five-of-six tickets paid handsomely ($52,898.40 each). Winning returns will soon be applied to participant accounts.

So, the only winners here were TwinSpires, CD, and Uncle Sam?

Just another day at the office........

$37,000 spent in yesterday's Fortune 6 is basically felony criminal fraud.

It seems a little nuts but this is the way these guys always seem to play things. No Thanks.

That's almost a $300,000 ticket if the base bet was $2.

It was an overbet of criminal proportions based on every factor possible yesterday.

Using every horse that I thought had any reasonable chance of winning cost $5040. To overbet that by a factor of 7-8 is just impossible.

Not to mention, but the chances of a couple key chalks winning yesterday was an astronomical favorite which makes it even worse.

I could have lost my money just as easily without the help of a pool. Actually, I cleaned up Derby weekend and hit the Beulah six without the help of a pool.

$37,000 spent in yesterday's Fortune 6 is basically felony criminal fraud.

I will tread lightly in my assumptions of why this was done. "Corporate decisions" sometimes are involved. I no longer have input there, but remember CDI bought Winticket.com from Beulah's owner and scrapped their original wagering platform/interface and used Winticket's model. Was there some payback to Beulah by CDI? I doubt the Handicappers were comfortable spending that much money on Beulah. My personal $324 ticket won and that was my "big" ticket. I had other $40-$90 tickets that would also have won but I was saving some money for Churchill.

Thursday May 6th

Thursday`s Players` Pool contributions totaled $75,000. The Players Pool nabbed both the Pick-6 and the Super High-5. Unfortunately, the racecard lacked the longshot winners needed for a big score. So, the winning payoffs were modest. Regardless, the winning Players` Pool tickets recorded a total pre-tax return of $58,064.30 (net return after witholding taxes was $45,009.30). Listed below are the Players` Pool tickets for Thursday`s Pick-6 at Churchill Downs. Thanks to all for participating!

Don't you get a W2-G with that?

They spread way too much. What's the point of having supposedly Ace Handicappers if you're gonna spread that much?

When you spread it out like that, it gets to the point that over time, you are guaranteed to lose the track takeout....plus get needlessly affected with withholdings.

Despite the loss on Beulah ticket, they turned a profit for the day.

I see that in the two players club pools $175,120.00 was wagered and they had a return of $167,611.50. A total loss of $7,508.50. Even though the total return was a loss, Twin Spires paid $43,383.50 to the IRS. This amount should be recovered when a tax return is filed for 2010. Will the this amount be paid back to the players in these pools when a 2010 tax refund is received by twinspires or is this just a "little" gratuity for them running the pool?

They don't charge anything for running the pool.
