Ive been shooting for the moon every year on the derby and havent hit since Smarty Jones. I'll probly have close to a grand in the race, and I dont even know who im betting on at this point. lol. which probly isnt a very good idea considering the losing streak im on. The horse I was going to bet scratched today (Endorsement).

would make the bet too expensive where it wont even be worth it... i like so many horses its hard to narrow it down. im sure the philly will mess it all up for me. i would of hit the tri and super last year if not for mine that turd. i always get screwed for the derby

Derby will only be a token bet for me. I like 6 horses, too many for me to narrow down. So I will make a small cold exacta on a couple out of my choices. Will be watching and enjoying more than anything.

More enjoyment that real action on the Derby for me. The undercard used to be very profitable for me, but since I started having a Derby party, I don't get to pay as much attention anymore and usually don't bet very much. I'll have about 30 people at my party, all but a couple probably won't make another horse racing bet all year, but if last year is any indication, we'll probably put about 1500-2000 through the window on the derby with about 1/2 of it in one group bet (that I get to structure). Personally, I'll chip in 100 or so for the group, and then maybe make a few 10-20 dollar exacta stabs.

$1200 is usually my benchmark for all Triple Crown cards. Usually takes that much for me to cover all the races I choose to play along with DD's, Pick 3's and some pick 4's. I typically put most of my wagers in online before I go to the track so the $ needs to be put out upfront.

Can't really put an effective wagering strategy together with much less than that...and I'm a relatively small time player.

.50 tris and pick3's/4's don't usually save me any money...in fact they usually cost me more...as I usually end up on a few extra ponies.

Good luck to you!

This is a recreational bet for me as are most TC races. It is fun to watch and try to pick out possible future stars. But I prefer betting serious money on 8M sprints at Tampa.

That looks like a good combo, Smarty Cide, and judd's idea of Mission Impazable is good too. Conveyance will have a lot to say in the race, but I think he fades down the stretch. I am almost of a mind to bet this race two ways. Find a pace or on-the-pace horse who might lull them to sleep and take it; and, find the closers who will get up into a race that falls apart on the front end. These aren't the greatest horses we've seen, but the field appears evenly matched.

And what's the story with Dublin? A lot of touts speak his name--I think he usually disappoints--but from the stories of his workouts, if he spoke English, he'd say "no effin way I'm running Saturday. Now get me a julep."

Thinking about a couple of bucks on the fillie. Whoever it is, it won't be more than $2 and it will have odds. I am a small better and this race is not a good race to only bet one horse. If I were a big better, I could see going wild in the exotics.

I usually keep my entire wager to under $50

Last year I hit the Exacta on a $24 bet

Had the TRI for another $12

The 5 years before last I donated an average of $40 :D

Dilemma. I don't like the filly with the "giraffe" Beyer, but I don't want to get burned by her. She'll take money because of the Rachel-Zenyatta ruboff.

I'm in the same boat as CBedo, throw a party and do a group bet and others, generally the total around $250 again with people that don't bet any other time. Last two years no one has won anything, wish I had the cojones to layoff the bets myself. I guess I could pick my spots. If I get the chance I'll probably work out some exotics that will total $100 on my own.

$200 bankroll on the day—with $100 for the Kentucky Derby itself. How it is bet is still up in the air. I heard there are 50 cent trifectas.

Have $20 on Sidney's Candy in Pool 3 at 22/1...

Are you really doing this Zippy? Seems like a pretty risky move to me.

Kentucky Derby exacta's have only payed over $760.00 Four times in the past 17 years.

I guess the good news is you can always tell people you picked the kentucky derby winner!

$125

* 50 $1 Trifectas
* 25 $1 Supers
* 1 $25 Cold Exacta
* 1 $25 Win Bet

** Still undecided. I've narrowed it to 8 contenders

1, 2, 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 20

I do think if there is an illogical bomb winner it will be the 9.

It is a really nice looking Derby card. I better make Derby wager (bout $200 budget) early just in case the day goes bad. Eight Belles S looks kinda soft, buf the turf Distaff Mile looks very nice, and the CD Hdcp seems to have gathered the best sprinters in training.

The Sheppard runner in Distaff Turf Mile Fantasia looks very nice at ML 5-1.

Pretty much agree on your 8. A $1 ex box might not be a bad idea.

With the weather forecast, starting to look like a token wager race for me. Form on these hard enough to handicap, adding in a muddy track with all these babies getting dirt thrown in their faces...... ugh.

Probably about $200 which is too much considering I don't have any good value oriented opinions. :bang:

I am planning on $300-$400 for the Derby. Might be more if I have a good day Friday and early Saturday. Much depends on the weather:) A $200 show bet if I am winning:)
