Could someone help me with the formula for finding the Median Energy % for routes?

I don't have any of my Sartin or Brohamer materials with me,

but if I remember right:

Total energy = F1 + F2 +F3

Median energy = F1 + F2/ F1 +F2 +F3

As a percent = (F1 + F2/ F1 + F2 + F3) x 100

For routes F1 = 4 f F2 = 6 f, If I remember correctly.

You want to use the fractions, not the call times.

Are these formulas correct?

F1= 2640/ Horse Fraction 4
F2= 1320/ (Horse Fraction 6 - Horse Fraction 4)
F3= (Race distance in feet - 3960) / (Horse Final Time - Horse Fraction 6)

(F1 + F2) / (F1+F2+F3)

Most of the resulting numbers are in the mid 70's

From examples I had seen the resulting numbers were in the mid 60's

Are you putting in the beaten lengths?

Tom I'm using the formulas in an EquiSim FV which gives me the horse's time at
each fraction and final time.

That may be why the numbers are higher?
If you are consistent in how you do it, there should be no big deal.
zilly's parameters are only applicable to the way he does it, considering does he use track to track and daily variants and what value of beaten lengths.

Tom is right. Are you using beaten lengths?
You have to calculate the rate of speed that the horse is travelling in feet per second over each distance.

Rate = Distance/ time = (2640 - 10x (beaten lengths))/ time 1 st call(if you are using 10 feet to represent 1 length.)
That will give you F1

You then calculate F2
F2 = (1320 - 10x (beaten lengths))/(time 2nd call - time 1 st call)

I hope that helps.

For F2
In my own calculations, if the horse is gaining ground between F1 and F2,
you have to consider adding that ground gain which would be
(1320 - 10x (beaten lengths 2) + 10 x (beaten lengths1 -beaten lengths2))/time

You have to do similar again between F3 and F2.

Alternatively you could use

(1320 - 10x (beaten lengths 2) -10 x (beaten lengths2 -beaten lengths1))/time

and get the same result.

Sounds like he is using the horse time adjsuted for BL before the calculations.
I did it that way for a while when I had to do it by hand.

Thanks Tom. I found the mistake in my formula and the numbers now seem to be correct.

Thanks Tom?? So I'm dog meat. :lol: :lol:
