its stressful regulating financial stuff. so many numbers. a little work time hardcore porn downloading and DVD burning is required. Sometimes, 8 hours of it. every day.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100423/ap_on_bi_ge/us_sec_porn

• A senior attorney at the SEC's Washington headquarters spent up to eight hours a day looking at and downloading pornography. When he ran out of hard drive space, he burned the files to CDs or DVDs, which he kept in boxes around his office. He agreed to resign, an earlier watchdog report said.

• An accountant was blocked more than 16,000 times in a month from visiting websites classified as "Sex" or "Pornography." Yet, he still managed to amass a collection of "very graphic" material on his hard drive by using Google images to bypass the SEC's internal filter, according to an earlier report from the inspector general. The accountant refused to testify in his defense and received a 14-day suspension.

• Seventeen of the employees were "at a senior level," earning salaries of up to $222,418.

• The number of cases jumped from two in 2007 to 16 in 2008. The cracks in the financial system emerged in mid-2007 and spread into full-blown panic by the fall of 2008.

So now investigators have found all the cracks they were actually examining.

how does the guy manage to get blocked 16,000 times in a month??

if he got blocked every minute during an 8 hour day, for 28 consecutive days, its only 13,000.

this guy is prolific.

Obviously, the guy is really good at repetitive motion activities.

I just wonder did he try and fail at the same porn site 16,000 times? Or did he know 16,000 porn sites to try?

Not sure which is worse.

The source of this story is a memo from the SEC's inspector general, that just happened to fall into the hands of ABC news tonight. hmmm.

The SEC charges Goldman and today Obama harangues Wall Street, then this evening we find out that top SEC staffers were goofing off on porn sites DURING the time when the financial crash happened.

the gloves have come off.

depends on the blocking software and whether or not it was hardware (barracuda etc) related. If you go to a web page on a porn site that has 10 pictures with names or scripts etc.........the device will block each independently and record it in the log. This means that one page could have ten items blocked by just going to one page. Some pages I would hesitate to guess would have upwards of 20-30 blocked items..........

Simple solution to fight this scourge. A well placed mirror to remind the viewer of their "snowballs chance in hell" of ever being involved in any scene they're about to watch or ever will.

Do you tutor government employees in your spare time. All kidding aside this a problem in both the private and public sector. I had a problem with one of my employees who worked on the third shift. It was so much the viewing of that stuff that is the problem(although it can lead to legal problems if the wrong person accidentally sees it) it is the junk that infects the company computer that they pick up on those sites. After several warnings and the necessary disciplinary steps, I had to fire him. He just wouldn't(or couldn't)stop doing it. Too bad, because otherwise he was very good employee and decent third shifters are hard to find.

I can't imagine any private sector company with so many senior executives spending all day absorbed in porn on company computers.

My question is, if this is the conduct of the senior executives, can you imagine what is going on undereath them? Do you think all those people are busy toiling away?

and let's not kid ourselves, I'm sure this is in no way limited to just the SEC.

I wonder if BO will consider this another crisis and be calling for tough reforms for the SEC?

what I'm wondering if we suddenly hear about an inspector general being let go for some vague unsubstantiated "performance" issues, just like the old timer they canned last year for investigating one of Obamas friends.

I've been friends with a quite few IT Admins, they have some pretty hilarious stories about the depravity, prolificness, and tenacity of their fellow coworkers.

Porn is a great headline, but if they studied Facebook habits they'd have found a lot more evidence of people dicking off at work. Not as sensational, but every bit as much to the point they're apparently trying to make. And one you'd find at any large group of humans with internet access. It's much heavier on the sensationalism than it is on the substance of the matter.

The SEC is screwed up, but I doubt it's because of a systemic porn addiction.

Schapiro has been parrying GOP complaints about the Goldman Sachs lawsuit, which agency officials hoped would mark a new era of tougher oversight of Wall Street. They followed high-profile embarrassments including the failure to catch Ponzi kings Bernard Madoff and R. Allen Stanford.

Republican lawmakers also accused the SEC of being influenced by politics. The SEC's commissioners approved the Goldman charges on a rare 3-2 vote. The two who objected were Republicans.

Schapiro is a registered independent who has been appointed by presidents of both parties.

Honest question here, why is the GOP complaining about the investigation?

no doubt the porn deal is a headline grabber, and only the tip of the iceberg.

I'd love to be able to covertly observe and interact with a large gov agency, to study how it works, how the people function. It's got to be a Byzantine nightmarish cluster.

my girlfriend works for the County, in the Auditor / Controller office. Even at small scale:

"It's got to be a Byzantine nightmarish cluster."

sounds about right.

(but, since I'm not real happy with them, the private company I work for is rapidly approaching this status as well -- 35 Vice Presidents now in a corp of 300 employees, and a spaghetti of reports and cross reports, and in some cases, single reports. Disgusting.)

I didn't say it wasn't a problem in the private sector, I know its a problem.
But in my experience in the private sector, I don't see senior executives making over $200K per year closeted away in their offices downloading porn all day. You would get found out fairly quickly and terminated.

In the private sector, you need to show results, unlike government, where all you need show is up.

Just another in a long line of Bush f*ck-ups. Of course with a guy like COX at the HEAD of the org what do you expect. :D
The whole plan was to do ANYTHING OTHER than enforce any regs.
Who cares if it's porn or dope, as long as they didn't try to enforce anything that was fine with the free market scammers.

Oh , the "glove" stays on , of course!

Tom - you and some of the other private sector screw-ups from this thread need to get out more, what do you think goes on in the corner office anyway.

It's sad to see you clowns so deluded. The whole purpose of being at the top and getting the corner office is to hide what you are up to.

With the performance of the privates in the last 15-20 years you would think most would wise up.

Not possible it seems.

The whole deal is a dog and pony show, bama looks to scold WS - WS writes the "reforms" bill via the Senate to provide a parody of justice to show that justice prevails and all is right with the markets all the while they are scamming and robbing you both via the fed/gvt and WS outright.

The best part is that they have YOU(the bagholder) singing their praises on high while they bugger the hell out of you.

Classic.
