Plans Unclear for Researcher

Charles Town, WV - The morning after his repeat victory in the $1,000,000 Charles Town Classic, plans for local hero Researcher will be determined in the coming weeks. While the six-year-old gelding carried Rutledge Farm’s colors to victory in the 2009 edition, last night marked his first race for Zohar Ben-Dov’s Kinross Corporation – a prominent name in steeplechase circles.

Plans call for Researcher to continue his career, but what remains unclear is whether or not it will take a detour to jump courses.

“He's exactly what a steeplechase outfit like us would be looking for,” said Neil Morris, trainer and farm manager for the Kinross Corporation. “I think there will be one or two more races on the flat through the spring with the thought of going over hurdles in the fall. He will go back to the farm and he was bought with steeplechasing in mind.”

Should Researcher remain on flat courses, one possible destination for him could be the Stephen Foster Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs this June. Researcher finished seventh in last year’s Foster despite being beaten only 2 ½ lengths for the win.

“There is some talk of the Foster,” Morris added. “We will see.”
