Talk about an organization that has its SH** together! My boss just returned from down under and spent a few days touring the ONLY, get that, ONLY TV outlet that covers all of racing in Australia. They not only do the production coverage but all the stewards pan shots as well. One might think that a virtual monopoly would be inefficient but he states otherwise.

THEY are the ones who tell the tracks when to run the races and schedule them to run every five minutes so that no two run together unless there is some unforeseeable problem. NO tape delays as the directors have hot lines to each track's stewards office so they have instantaneous feedback in case of troubles and when reasonable (injury at the gate and late scratch, weather related problems, mechanical failures etc.) allow for a race to be re-scheduled.

HERE is the best part: under contract to them, they MUST do everything in their power to stay on schedule or the TV provider can evoke their standard penalty: THEY WITHHOLD ALL PARIMUTUELS PROFITS FROM THAT RACE. What an incentive!

He says they also have a radio division and much like our news radio channels, these special stations provide all day race coverage from throughout the country......

More of our people should try and emulate this model.

i've heard the radio before online....very good. Australia has a similar population to Canada, but more tracks than any country on earth (over 200?). They have gov't ministers for racing. It's a big deal there, and a big part of the economy. Not a side show of the past like it is here...

They also allowed betfair to set up shop and take wagers....
