Help us Obiwan Kenobi, you're our only hope: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/56395/bassett-to-regulators-youre-the-one-hope?source=rss

I hold no hope the industry can pull together for their own sake.

The industry can pull together all it wants. It won't overcome the lard a&& politicians that bloat the payrolls with administrative patronage jobs. When they finally drive it into the ground they tear it down to develop condos. Remember Bay Meadows? They are trying to do the same thing to Hollywood Park. It just makes me sick that this practice is an acceptable form of running a business (not just race tracks). These "pinheads" that cut back to save money to a point it ruins the customers experience and therefore ruins the business. At least they showed a profit before they went belly up. Pure genius (<sarcasm).

Racing commissions have always been a dumping ground for political appointees. I don't see that changing. The only people who could change anything in the industry is the horse owners. They are the only ones who have enough money to effect an election. But since doing the right thing for racing often conflicts with their other interest I do not see that happening. JMO

Why do we need Hollywood Park? There are too many tracks overall, and racing circuits have too many tracks. They all cost lots of money to maintain, money that doesn't need to be spent.

I think a good first step would be to require all racing venues to communicate any and all parimutual issues to RCI. RCI can post on their web site any notifications that would be of interest to the wagering public, and, if there were any refunds due like the example discussed from 2009 at HOL then people would have half a chance at collecting a refund they might other wise assume was a losing ticket. Now, if people would hold on to their tickets while at the track or OTB.

He's tslking about opposites- more national standardization while at the same time giving politicians more power over their part of racing.
To really "level the field", we need as many people betting on horses who couldn't care less if they win or lose- as casinos and state lotterys have!!!
