I saw on the news tonight that Obama wants companies to make "job sharing" mandatory so as to spread the jobs around.

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-baker5-2010apr05,0,3170018.story

You know, give up ten hours a week in pay and work so your company can give that time to another employee.............

Ever heard of what happen in France when they went this route ?

Tom

Does that include his job?
Do we allow some other terrorist to be the the Liar N Chief for 10 hours a week?

What planet has Obama been living on?
A lot of companies already do that. Thus they don't have to pay the benefits that full time employees get. That's why people are working 3 jobs now.

If B Hussein O's (the 1st US Senator from Kenya) ineptitude weren't such a serious matter, it would be laughable.

I share only if I get to march with The Acorneers. Maybe chanting:

Yup...another one of those Freudian slips! I heard her say that, too! Why would anyone born here in America be thought of by someone in his immediate family as being from some other "home country"?

I am confused. Where are the Obama-worshippers in this thread? HCP? Postie? Could you please step in here and tell us why this is a good thing?

Very sorry. I was busy watching Duke beat Butler. Apparently none of you read the article that JustRalph linked to. Nowhere in that article is Obama's name mentioned and nowhere in that article does it say that he favors this plan.
The authors of the article are the ones writing in favor of the plan. Here's the embarassing part for you guys. Co-Author Kevin Hassett is a senior fellow and economic policy advisor for the American Enterprise Institute a very conservative think tank. A number of other conservative organizations are also pushing this plan. Now it seems that you all think this plan calls for everyone in a company to give up ten hours per week so that the company can hire a new worker for every four current emmployees who participate. You are wrong. (No surprise there  )
The donated hours would be taken by an employee who would otherwise have been laid off.
I am also sure that none of you read the part where the Government would subsidize most of the lost wages. They would do so using funds that they would have paid out in unemployment.
According to the article provided by JR, a person who worked 20% less hours per week would find his pay reduced by about 5% each week. Were I still working, I would do that to keep my fellow employees (some of whom still are my friends) on the job.
This would not be a permanent plan and every effort should be made to return to full time employment.

Nice spin job.
I don't spin anything. I present the facts. If those facts don't jibe with your preconceived notions there is nothing I can do about that. If you think my reply was a spin job, present me with some evidence to prove it.
Show me that the American Enterprise Institute is not a conservative organization. Tell me why it is good to pay people to do nothing, but bad to pay them to be productive. Finally the several articles I read on the subject had the headline (in one form or another) Obama urged to consider Job sharing; not Obama to mandate job sharing.

You try & try. The fact is that you're delusional. Would you like to get into a fact war? Are you ready. Really ready?

The reason few engage with you is that most believe you to be a loon. I'll debate you on 'facts'. Bring it on.

The opening sentence in that LA Times piece says it all:

European nations have had great success in spreading the pain among workers and offsetting the lost wages with government credits. The U.S. should do likewise.

This goes exactly to the heart of what I have always said about Socialism, namely: Socialism can only spread the misery. Socialism will never create wealth. Socialism will never make the poor rich or even "well off". Socialism will only take from the Producers and Give to the Takers. It will make the middle and upper classes a lot less solvent, while only marginally improving the lot of the poor. What a great economic system!

Boxcar
P.S. So, get ready, folks, to take on other people's pain. This is the Givers' ultimate reward for "contributing" to the Takers.

I don't know, maybe that Robert Gibbs was discussing at the press conference yesterday............ it was suggested as part of a committee BO put together and Gibbs said yesterday that they were looking into it seriously.

I saw it on Fox and if you care to look, you can find several articles about it online.

From that link above... and sorry to be so juvenile, but...

"The Frank-Dicks Act (Barney Frank, D-Mass. and Norm Dicks, D-Wash.), if passed, would make job sharing a right of all Americans, with everyone free to participate on a mandatory basis."

Sorry, I couldn't get much farther than that for the rest of the comedy...

Don't go for oatmeal.

FOX is worse. But it's reallyclose. The difference is FOX never does a positive story about Obama while MSNBC let one slip by occasionally about GWB.

Fox broadcasts truth, not fluff.
They piss me off in that they sometimes bend over backwards to give the dems the benefit of the doubt when they should be attacking.

Actually, I think if you go to the link and read the article, you'll find that it is satire. :)

Yes, indeed I did. But I will bet you $1 millon of Tom's money that there were people who read it and still believe it was genuine. To be fair, if you lose, you can pay me in NJ's money.

Now come on - you have a very low opinion of others, I guess. How could a human possibly read beyond the first paragraph and not realize that it was satire? If you were that braindead, you probably wouldn't even bother to make the effort to read anything on that subject in the first place.
