Looking at the post times for both the Santa Anita Derby and the Illinois Derby, they are scheduled to start at basically the same time: SAD, 2:36 PT, ID 2:37 PT.

I plan to go to the local OTB to watch and wager, and, I would much prefer having these races separated by a goodly amount of time. I want concentrate on one race at a time: watch the tote board, look at the pools, watch the post parade and enjoy each race. And not have to try to do both races at the same time.

Is it too much to ask for big races like these to be treated as a series of opportunities instead of competing with each other?

Blame the simulcast coordinator in most instances. Post times are rarely the decision of the racing secretary.

The SA Derby is Televised today. Maybe that's why it is where it is timewise.

OK, OK, so I got it wrong. It still is, in my opinion, stupid these races can not be shown in a way that is more spaced out.

On big days, those decisions sometimes go as high as the COO or GM, because so many departments need to coordinate.

On semi-big days, it's the mutuel manager or simulcast manager.

Day-to-day, they either have a generic set of posts, or a flunky in the mutuel department takes care of it. Tracks that don't give a crap let the tote operator handle it.

But there were several overlapping big races today. Too many tracks think they're top dog and everyone should work around *them*.

I missed a couple of races I wanted to watch because of the moronic scheduling and then sticking NBC in the mix. Leave these fringe networks out of it. If they can't show all the races, don't show any. Switching between three channels is too much.

Even though they didn't show it, did NBC even mention the Illinois Derby results and where American Lion's win should be placed in comparison?

Say what you want about NBC and their coverage, the over head shot in SA derby was awesome. JMO
