Here's to eleven times covering this topic;

Spectacular Bid or Secretariat (I mean, c'mon)
Pincay or Jerry Bailey

I wouldn't argue with anyone who put up Dr. Fager or even Ghostzapper.
Or The Shoe, Garret Gomez or even Victor Espinoza.

(...check those spelllings...)

Shoe, the best jockey that ever lived.
IN HIS WAY, and the best of his generation.........

Snapper Garrison, Earl Sande, Carroll Shilling, Eddie Arcaro, Johnny Longden, George Wolff, Laffit Pincay, Jerry Bailey, Pat Day.....very hard to differentiate these from one another.

What I like about the shoe, he had a build in clock in his brain.

I have heard interviews when he denied just that...He just communicated better than most with SUBTLE moves as opposed to a Laffit or Ycaza with strength.

Considering the distance my horse would be Spectacular Bid .

The jockey would be Bill Hartack.

Secretariat or Seattle Slew with Laffit Pincay aboard; either of those would win for fun.

Cratos you dont think the BId was a better horse then Slew?...Bid certainly had the better career

The absolute two best horses that I ever seen raced at the 1 1/8 mile distance was Secretariat and Seattle Slew and that is what I based my decision on. If I am correct, I believe both had sub-1:46 times for that distance. Incidentally, Dr. Fager my all time favourite racehorse would be a close third.

Oh, I'd have to go with Secretariat also...with Turcotte...if I had to choose another rider for him...I'd go with Shoemaker...quiet hands & finese.

second choice...Slew & Cordero.

:)

At 9 furlongs, Seattle Slew, Angel Cordero. At a mile and a quarter or longer, Secretariat, Julie Krone or Shoemaker. At a mile or less, Ruffian, P. Val.

Secretariat was the best horse I ever saw past 9 furlongs, but if memory serves me correct, all 3 of his losses were at 9 furlongs, that's why I took Seattle Slew at a mile and an eighth. At 10 furlongs or beyond, tough to beat Secretariat.

Just look at Secretariats Belmont fractions and that was 1 1/2. I'll take Sec and Turcotte running faster because it's 1 1/8. Thanks for the money :D

How about a one mile race out of the chute at Aqueduct, 10 horse field with Seattle Slew, Ruffian, Dr Fager in it. I don't know who'd win, but the fractions and final time would set a world record that would never be matched.

Just for the heck of it, I'll go for an all female team. Ruffian with Julie Krone up.

Why is it  that when someone starts a thread like this, where he/she writes down the race conditions...in this case, 1 1/8th mile on dirt...so many start changing it up...1 1/4 mile whould be such & such horse, at a mile, such & such horse...kinda drives me crazy...I think we should stick with the original conditions and not go 'off' topic:) :) :)

Sorry, but I just had to vent about that:bang:
