Can anyone out there point me towards sources of information (books, formulas and calculations, internet sites, discussions, software, etc.) on how to determine the total energy expended by a horse in a particular race?

Thanks

The best writings on energy that I have ever seen were published in 1989 by Huey Mahl. To this day I use his table of "H" Energy Ratings For Critical Times/Distances.

These writings were published over a six week period in a weekly newsletter out of Las Vegas entitled Huey Mahl's Length Variant-The Ultimate Thoroughbred Comparator.

The chart I still use was from an issue dated June 11-17, 1989 on page 24-15. I think 24 maybe the issue # and 15 the actual page #.

Gamblers Book House in Las Vegas may be able to steer you to these articles if interested.

Figman, I realize it is a complex subject however i was wondering how you use the energy chart? It really bothered me when Length Variant stopped publication.Thanking you in advance if you have the time!

Energy is proportional to the square of the velocity. So something like EP * EP + LP * LP should work better than EP + LP, for instance. If anyone tests this, I'd be interested in the results.
