6th race, number 7 won paid $292.20, odds =145.1, pool=194791, number 7=1066. I calculate a takeout of 20.6%. Will someone check my math? This is very high! At least nyra is going with 15% for rest of the year.

I say "screw Arabia"....:jump: ...I don't think they really like us much, and I have a problem sending my betting kash over to them, as a result ....They get enough at the pump...

I think the cash stays here Lotta. Horseplayersbet.com might know the takeout.

For some comparison I am watching at a low take venue overseas, and here are a few odds with $380k bet so far for the big one. These should be a fairly good harbinger of fair odds, imo, if you are wondering.

Gitano : 4.2-1
Twice Over: 6-1
Gio Ponti: 6.6-1
Vision 6.3-1
Red Desire: 7-1
Crowded House: 12-1
Richards Kid: 20-1

gambling is illegal in Dubai so your precious kash is not going to be sent there

Please don't try to pretend there is no gambling on the races in Dubai.

The takeout is not Dubai. It is the American pool. NYRA going with 15% because they have to in order to survive. They have Monmouth which will hurt them, they have no slots, and they have NYCOTB not paying them what they owe them. NY Racing is in serious trouble.

Dubai rake:

WPS: 18%
All else: 25%

I'm pretty sure it was 20% on WPS and 25% on everything else.

My data is possibly pre 2010 (from first of the year). If they are the same pools - looks like they pushed up the rake by 2% this year. Nobody cares right? :bang:

They are not under any obligation to announce it. That is what makes horse racing so special.

Tioga Downs got permission from NYRA to lower takeout across the board to see if their handle goes up, and WPS will indeed be 15%. That's the only NYRA track involved though.

I know you don't mean pari-mutuel wagering, so are you referring to bookies or people betting online over there?

Yes I was aware of that - Tioga isn't part of NYRA (only SAR, BEL, and AQU is). It was the NYSR&WB - the Gov't racing regulator in NY that approved the takeout drop (hence my confusion :)).

That's not the point, though is it. It is illegal, any betting markets being offered will be organized by organizations that are definitely not based in Dubai (such as betfair, independent bookmakers, etc).

You certainly gave a smartass answer..."precious kash"...what was the point?

Still, just because betting is illegal in Dubai does not mean people are not betting on the races, even at the track. I know, and you probably know too, that they are.

Yes, well, I was confused too! Anyway, the point is, Dubai takeout is high, Tioga is low. :D

For the record, Tioga wanted to go MUCH lower on there takeout reduction. The wonderful folks in NY State government will not allow them to.

Do you guys figure in your TIME when computing wagers and winnings? I do. I charge myself by the hour.

Average exacta at NY today: $12.08
Average exacta at SA today: $29.10

Average exacta at Dubai today: $387.05

If I "selectively" play dubai, I believe I can make the most of my time spent handicapping.

Handicapping 9 horses (SArace5) got you a $10.10 exacta
Handicapping the Dubai Cup got you a $527.40 exacta

Of course, you could lose both. But I have given up handicapping CA and NY......when I figure in my time, the cost of my data and such, it's just not that lucrative, despite being less takeout.

I realize this would be different for someone pushing tens of thousands thru every year, but I don't. For the little player, it's better to find those big fields, with good odds, and handicap those races, IMHO.

Great post!

That's why I'm currently suggesting a field size takeout scale.

4 or less 10% on all bets
5-6 15% on all bets
7-8 20% on all bets
9-10 25% on all bets
11-12 30% on all bets
13-14 35% on all bets
15 or more 40% on all bets

The KY Derby will be a goldmine for tracks and horsemen everywhere. The avg handle last 2 years was $160 million....$64 million in takeout would help racing a lot.

If you are just as proficient at all tracks it's a good idea; but who says you are going to be. I evaluate the tracks I play by looking at net profits divided by number of races handicapped (not races bet).

Any place that pays out $115K p3s will get my monies worth:)

The play was almost impossible. You had to have a strong opinion that the fillies had the best kick in the Sheema Classic, that Sea the Stars was an absolute monster and Dar Re Mi's close run in the Arc (she hit the lead) was legit, and that Gloria could walk away with leisurely early fractions.

All with two fillies with Gloria would have been the play.

The point was that he shouldn't worry about sending takeout on his bets to Dubai because it will definitely not be going to Dubai. That was the only point that I was making.
