It's really a joke. The lack of government in NYS is killing horse racing.

Just an example, the government is holding the NYRA's feet to the fire about their spending. Well NYC-OTB is now a NYS run company and it owes the NYRA $15 million dollars! It is crazy!

We need total reform in NY - which is what a commission recommended that the state formed to look at the racing and OTB situation. But typical NYS , they have totally ignored the advise of this reform panel.

Ok so 1300 jobs will end if it happens, they shut down. Then if anyone with any balls in NYS should bring charges against all the political cronies that lined their pockets with this found money over the years. Charge them with unreported income by the fed's. These BOZO'S are dirty and what they have done is put horse racing in jeopardy in
NYS at the expense of many livelihood's.

IT MAY BE TIME TO CLOSE THAT NYC OTB ACCOUNT. IT APPEARS THE PARASITE IS ABOUT TO DIE.

There are lottery teminals all over New York City, couldn't they be modified,or replaced so horse race wagers could be sold through them?
Doing so would expand the parimutuel market,by distributing the gambling product more widely, and making it very easy to place a wager.
The selling agents would have to accept less than the 6% commission on lottery sales, but they could make up for it with greater volume, and they should be allowed to broadcast the racing signal freely in their establishments at no charge, sharp business people would set up mini OTB's.
The current surcharge would also have to be eliminated, but without lots of offices, and an independent contrator business model, there would be a huge reduction in overhead and administrative expenses.
Properly marketed horse racing would surely be a more appealing choice than the NY Lottery's ridiculous "Quick Draw" game, there could even be tie-ins for random number fans/players,like a lottery on the winning posts of an entire card from a NY Track.
