We all need a good laugh, so what is the weirdest name you have heard called or unusual name by a race track announcer on a horse in a legal race, and you know what I mean, (legit all the way)

OK people, no cussing please, lets keep it civil :)

Two that Luke managed to always give great calls to:

Onestrikenoballs (gelding) - "...if you got him, you got the nuts today..."

Sky Hoof Hearted - "...from the rear its sky hoof hearted, gassing up ready to unleash and leave the other in fumes..."

(all quotes attributed to Luke are actually somewhat fabricated recollections of his actual calls that resemble my memories).

Nobody is in charge, you submit your horse's name you want (up to six per horses) to the Jockey Club, and a group of people there review all of them and then let you know which one you got. I remember reading one time that Secretariat was the sixth choice, but I'm not sure of that. I do know that the first choice for Lure was Love (he was out of a mare named Endear). In retrospect, I'm glad Lure was the final verdict.

There's some guy in Arkansas who named all his horses Humble One, Humble Two, etc...they stopped him after he got to something like 17. Those Karakourum (sp?) people stick their stable name on the front of everything they have. Kentucky-based owner Bert Klein uses Bert in a lot of his horses: Hurricane Bertie, Allaboutbertie, etc. Likewise for Ken Ramsey using Kitten, his wife's nickname: Kitten's Joy...now that horse is a sire, there will be a ton of Kitten's hitting the racetrack...

My favorite horse name is "Bill". He was an old claiming campaigner with an interesting quirk, at least when he ran at Ellis Park. After the race gallop out, the horse would refuse to come back to be unsaddled, just stand there. The first time it happened, he got a ride back in the ambulance. He decided he liked getting a ride, so every time he ran, he would just stand there and wait for his "chauffeur"...hilarious to see it happen.

Reminds me of Romeo Jason, he would run his eyeballs out, win by many in really really fast time, not get claimed, get vanned off at about the 7/8 pole because that's as far as he could gallop out. Sure do. Have never seen a form like his and probably never will. For several reasons, not the least of which was the way he was managed, Romeo Jason was one in a million. Was dissapointed to once hear his trainer, remarking on the horse's infirmities, say; 'If he had a brain in his head, he would never run a jump.' The guy (Charles Badderly??) should have knelt by the horse's stall every morning and thanked him for being so courageous.

Fozzy Bear had his name changed to Bold Revenue I believe. It had to do with the Muppet people threatening to sue the owners if the name didn't change, I believe.

In 1995 there was a horse that started in Ontario but wound up in the US named Fugdivino.

I'm sure that you mean "Turducken", a filly who ran at Arlington in 2009. I looked her up, and her dam was named Cool Chicken. Turducken is a fitting name, as a Turducken is a deboned stuffed chicken stuffed in a deboned duck that is stuffed in deboned turkey. It orginated in south Louisiana, and although the filly is Kentucky bred, I'd bet a dollar that the person that named her has Louisiana ties. If you'd like to try the food, go to this website: www.cajungrocer.com It will surely taste better than the filly ran last summer.

I would be remiss if I didn't note the excellent job Mr. Durkin did with "Flat Fleet Feet"...

In one race, I believe at the Spa, with FFF leading in the stretch, Durkin said. "Flat Fleet Feet first in the final furlong!" I also liked the job when he sang Doremifasolatido to the wire.

According to Jim Coleman, an old time Canadian Sports columnist, there was a horse running in Ontario in the 1940's that must have caused the track caller some delight. The horses name - York Hunt. :)

When they held the Jackson at Northville meet years ago the race
caller was the announcer from Jackson Raceway and he had a very
nasal sounding voice. It was great hearing him call the race anytime
OohOoh McFoo was running.

The Jockey Club lets some names get through because they live a pretty sheltered, entitled life. Not much in the way of street smarts in those blue bloods.

I recall an article about horses' names referred to "Dothenasty" which ran in NY back in the '90s. They asked a Jockey Club rep about it and he said
"Isn't that a dance?" :bang:

Dangling Participle was his name.

But they gelded him and changed his name to
Exclamation Point!!!!!

Some years ago at Saratoga there was a horse named "Rootenwootentooten". Just had a catchy alliterative sound to it.

One of my favorite contributions to this kind of thread when it comes up is Iams Bound, who was active about 10 years ago. Hard to back that one with any conviction.

I recall Bodacious but I don't recall Cunning. Trying to find a race call for one of these on You Tube. Thanks for giving me a great memory & Laugh.

The horse that finished 3rd in the 1911 Preakness had a very politically incorrect name.

I'll never understand how "Muffie's Diver" got through.

Not sure if there's been more than one horse with that name, but I remember "Muffie's Diver" running at Fairmount Park in the mid 1980s. Decent allowances horse, for that circuit. Another horse named "Fabulous Bush" ran about the same timeframe, and a top harness horse at QCD and Fairmount was named "Kellytucknichol" - oddly enough, a gelding.

My favorite however was "Soontobeglu" , a cheap claimer running on the Chicago circuit in the late 1980s I believe.

"Gotta go Gotta go Gotta go"

Taken by itself it's easy. Calling it during a race, especially if in a stretch duel, would probably not be so easy.
