As a student noted in a paper one time, "Bach had twenty children, and in his spare time, he practiced in the attic on a spinster."

Also, as the late Victor Borge wrote, "Bach was the first of the 'Three B's'. In fact, he was so first that in his day he was just about the only 'B' there was (unless you count Buxtehude, and nobody counts Buxtehude much anymore.)"

And of course the last Bach-PDQ Bach.

Just another reminder of how much of my music library is waiting to be digitized -- all of my MHS albums and E. Power Biggs along with all of my baroque organ music.

Slightly off topic here but DJofSD you mentioned MHS recordings above-have you or anyone heard any of the Bruckner/Celibidache cycle offered by them?

Got Bach jokes?

A few months after his death, Bach's grave was re-opened to investigate claims of foul play. The grave diggers were horrified to find Bach sitting upright and hold sheet music in his hand. We was hastily erasing the notes from the pages.

"What are you doing?" asked one of the startled workers.
Bach replied, "Can't you see I'm decomposing?"

Happy Birthday JB!

You'll be able to see this one coming a mile off, but...

A director decided to appeal to the widest possible range of moviegoers by making a film with classical composers as action heroes. Since he wanted the very best, he put out a casting call for Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude van Damme, Steven Seagal, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He pitched the idea to them. They were all receptive to participating, so he asked them if they had any preference on who they wanted to portray. Stallone selected Beethoven. Van Damme confessed to always having been a Mozart fan. Seagal opted for Wagner. The director then turned to Schwarzenegger and asked, "How about you, Arnold?" Arnold thought a moment, and then replied, "I'll be Bach."

Under the confines of the musical language of his time Bach was able to compose material that cuts to the heart. The greatest contrapuntist of all time.

Viva la Bach.
