By Abram Himelstein http://www.drf.com/images/Rachel_350x500.jpg Lynn Roberts Rachel Alexandra is led by Steve's Asmussen's assistant trainer Scott Blasi (right) and groom Javier Espinoza during her schooling session in the Fair Grounds paddock Saturday. NEW ORLEANS - Rachel Alexandra schooled in the Fair Grounds paddock on Saturday, arriving with the entrants for the seventh race, and remaining during and after the seventh race was run.

She appeared calm as she was led around the paddock by Scott Blasi, assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen.

Not much to discern.Just saw this wasn't up yet inciting 5 page vehemence!!

She looks great and has filled out.The only question I had was why no pictures of her butt?!!!

Seriously. The last comparison photos she was on a different lead in the pictures and the depth/lighting was different.I am no horseman and my opinion is voodoo, but my theory goes is that as a narrow rear ended 3yo doing what she did,if she filled out there=she'll finish stronger.

My question for those of you that know about such matters is does this dull speed and how much does weight added affect performance between seasons? If she's still a headstrong filly and wants to run up front, does the weight wear her out or put "literally" bottom end in her finishing ability?

Even though I'm young in my horseplayer years(1996 foaled),this esoteric stuff fascinates me more and more as time goes by.

I'm no expert but I do know that in general the extra oomph in her hindend will allow her to finish stronger. A lot depends on how relaxed she is, just like we saw last year. The more relaxed the more she has left to finish; and with a stronger hindend that is even more left in her tank to finish. Quickness wise she's not there yet, but that is more of a conditioning thing at this point then the extra weight. We saw a smaller scale version of what extra weight does for Rachel, as she put on a few pounds after the Preakness and Mother Goose and it only helped her finish in the Haskell.

She really is quite striking in the looks department...but I'm not horse flesh expert, so feel free to shoot me down and tell me how ordinary she looks...

That picture of her looks like she should be breathing fire (and not the Trevor Denman kind of breathing fire either...the MONSTER fire breather kind)...
