Churchill covers the inside of their turf course in late winter/early spring with a grow tarp that essentially acts as an isulator to stimulate the grass. Not the same thing as what SA is doing, but CD's tarp is also there to prevent the track from freezing, so it is somewhat similar.

Problem is that it's scheduled to rain about 9:00 am and continue.

At some point they have to take the tarp off to race. If it rains hard after they do that or some parts of the track get water through the tarp it could be another disaster.

I'm not gonna print any PP's for SA till the last minute if I do at all.

Maybe CHRB will brainstorm and mandate a AWS with a 1 mile tarp or indoor dirt tracks.

Next year, they will be the only track with a dome over it or build a in door race track

Maybe they should run over the tarp. Couldn't be any worse.
They should put the tarp over Frankee when they are finished with it.

They might get lucky today. Yesterday the weather report called for rain at 9:00 am, earlier this morning it was 1:00 pm, now it's 2:00 pm.

I'd imagine the Santa Anita Brass has plenty of valium and xanax available (prescribed of course) along with a doctor in the house.

I just checked the NOAA weather site, no precip reported in the state which I find somewhat incredible.

I wonder how much the tarp set them back? $4 or 5 grand is my guess.

I'd like to see a photo of the track with the tarp over it... mostly, I hope the rain doesn't screw anything up...again:faint:
I'm looking forward to Blind Luck and Crisp in the Oaks...but beleive Blind Luck is pretty much a lock in there... the SA H'cap has me excited because of St. Trinian's...I think Misremembered will give her a fight and might just beat her at the wire...but I can't wait to see her run.
With all the talk about her on this board, I wonder why no one is talking about this race today:confused: ($hit, hope I'm not off topic here)

Excerpt from the Pasenda Star news article. Man you gotta love it when a multi million dollar high tech plan comes together. Not once but twice. Can we say Santa Anita management and the politicos in California are a ship of fools. :bang:

It really all depends on how much and when that rain is going to fall," Santa Anita President Ron Charles said.

If rain does force a cancellation, the Big 'Cap most likely would be run next Saturday.

"That certainly is an option," Charles said.

Santa Anita's synthetic Pro-Ride surface can't handle a lot of rain in a short period. Five race days have been canceled this meeting when the track did not drain properly, bringing the total number of cancellations to 16 over the past three years.

Before the 2008 Santa Anita meet, its first with a synthetic surface (Cushion Track), only four days had been lost because of rain in the track's first 70 years.
WHAT A BUNCH OF MAROONS! :faint:
