(AP) — A veteran SeaWorld trainer was rubbing a killer whale from a poolside platform when the 12,000-pound creature reached up, grabbed her ponytail in its mouth and dragged her underwater. Despite workers rushing to help, the trainer was killed.

Horrified visitors who had stuck around after a noontime show watched the animal charge through the pool with the trainer in its jaws. Workers used nets as an alarm sounded, but it was too late. Dawn Brancheau had drowned. It marked the third time the animal had been involved in a human death.<Snip

Note to Sea World:

This is why these "animals" are named "killer whales"

Two words for Sea Worlds - Fish Sticks.
Time to abort this fish.

An orca shouldn't be at Sea World, the audacity and arrogance of the human race to think it can manhandle wild animals, take them out of their natural habitat, it's sickening.

It being a cetacean and air breathing, your terminology is a tad off base.

And yes I have a parrot who should be sitting and preening in a tree, looking at elephants, in Cameroon, Africa, but he was born in captivity in a pet store a few miles from me and does not know what he is missing.

it's tragic for the trainer, but I'm sure she knew that animal as well as anyone, and knew the inherint risk dealing with such a large predator.

THAT animal was sent shipping from the Victoria BC aquarium for that very reason.

So what? I'm sure the trainer who was killed was well aware of everything to do with THAT animals history including whatever happened in BC.

Was there some confusion of your part as to what I was saying?

she was teasing the whale about a minute before it happened. some local guy's video who saw it happen. seemed very strange as they are usually nice as pie to the big guys.

I consider myself duly chastized, deservedly so.
