Of all the photos hanging on the walls of my office/waiting room, this one, WITHOUT a doubt, garnered the most comment.

Man, I am getting old !!

I seem to remember that it was on a Sunday around 11:00 AM and that there may have been something about not going to church that day; but then, I could be mistaken !!

Forgive me Lord.

wait just remembered that this was the semis; wasn't the final a victory over sweden ??? and that was on a Sunday !!??

I will always remember that Friday night. I was on my way home from college when they broke into the radio broadcast to tell us that the USA had upset Russia in ice hockey. When I walked onto the house, my Dad and brother were watching the game and Russia had just gone up 2-1. I told them that "I think the US will come back and win." My brother said "I bet you $50 that Russia will win." I said "I will book that bet" and the rest is history.

He didn't find out they were watching the tape delay for 20 years. And yes, he did pay up. :D

Seems like somebody should say, "Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play..."

I visited Lake Placid two years ago & saw the rink. VERY cool.

If I had to name the Top 3 Hockey games of all time, that would be in the three.

My other two are:

1) Paul Henderson scoring with 34 ticks v.s. the Soviets in the inaugural series in 1972;
2) Montreal Canadians v.s. Red Army, New Year's Eve - 1975. On New Year's Eve 1975, the Canadiens met the Soviet Red Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CSKA_Moscow) in a game that is considered to be one of the greatest ever played.[104] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Montreal_Canadiens#cite_note-RedArmyGame-103) A contest between the two greatest hockey teams in the world,[105] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Montreal_Canadiens#cite_note-104) the match ended in a 3–3 draw following Soviet goaltender Vladislav Tretiak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladislav_Tretiak)'s 35-save performance.

Interesting that there is a common foe... :D

We were smashing empty Schlitz cans on our foreheads on the front lawn after we rolled out the door! Man, I wish I could party like that one more time.
We re-defined chugging that night.

hockey was a big sport in the neighborhood for years after that. i was 14, and we had street hockey teams in the summer. in the winter my father and uncle would pile enough kids for two teams in our station wagons, and drive to curtis bay for real ice hockey games. although none of us had skates it was fun. for anyone in the baltimore area the frozen pond we traveled to is on the same road that the under armor factory is located today. that game changed the world we lived in; no doubt

Showed that to some Russians in their Hockey Hall of Fame today at the Olympic Village but most were too young to remember it.

Even though the "Miracle on Ice" is a great memory, I had actually forgotten that in that same tournament the U.S. scored a goal with something like 29 seconds left in the game to tie was it Sweden? I also had forgotten that the U.S. team was behind in nearly EVERY game they played in route to the Gold Medal @ Lake Placid...............What I DO remember is the game was tape delayed on ABC and Jim McKay saying with a twinkle in his eye: "We're going to now go back to the 3rd period of the hockey game";)
