This is an ultra aggressive move from a conservative trainer. I'm kind of surprised. http://drf.com/news/article/110908.html

" Shirreffs said Life Is Sweet, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classicthe Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic here in November, remains a candidate for the $10 million Dubai World Cup on March 27 following a second-place finish in the Grade 2 Santa Maria Handicap last Saturday.

Making her first start since the Breeders' Cup in the Santa Maria, Life Is Sweet closed from last in a field of six and finished 1 3/4 lengths behind St Trinians.

"We're leaning a little toward Dubai," Shirreffs said."

It's not the trainer that's ultra conservative, it's the mosses.

When asked about taking Zenyatta to Dubai he replied "why?" and mumbled something about going " that far".
And here he is taking the second string to Dubai. With $10m on the line and the chance to take on Vodka among others, why not go there with your best horse?
Never quite figured that guy out.

un-retiring zenyatta and keeping her racing, and now life is sweet going to dubai.

Wow. talk about getting out of your comfort zone and taking on new challenges. I applaud them.

The Mosses don't own Life is Sweet...the Wygod's own her.

I wonder if they'll run her again here before shipping to Dubia...IMO, I am not sure this is a good thing for Life is Sweet...but, hey...what do I know:D

They are owned by two completely different people. The owner of Life is Sweet is obviously a risk taker considering how many times he insisted on taking on Zenyatta.

The owners of Zenyatta probably could care less about $10 million in Dubai. They just like to watch their filly run. They have already won a Kentucky Derby and a BC Classic and they don't care about money. The guy founded A&M records. They aren't stupid, she would go over there and win like she always does and everyone would say, "so what, she won on a synthetic.". Now she takes on Rachel and beats her and the owner says, look at all you biased Eclipse Award winners that have ignored her because I don't send you a case of wine. :D

Actually we think things should be decided on the racetrack, not by some clueless east-coast biased writers that like do get wasted on Jess Jackson wine. :D

Rachel could have showed up in the biggest race of the year, like Zenyatta, but her owners/trainers were cowards.

Now they can take their award and we will all find out what a joke it was to give it to her when things are decided on the track.

It might cost Jess Jackson a couple cases of wine this year to buy ANOTHER HOY.

joined that's my point

it was not sherrfis' decision making behind zenyatta's campaign it was the mosses.

I'm quite sure John would have been more aggressive had he had different owners.

Look at the sherrifs' track record. their name is synonymous with conservative.

I think you mean Moss, and they are one of the few that have won the two biggest races in America, the KY Derby and the BC Classic. Obviously they know what they are doing.

Oh my ever-loving GAWD.

How - and I'm serious, how - on earth is this side of the tape not worn out?

I must know the secret. I'd like to bottle it and sell it as "Tenacity Salve."

Hey, credit for consistency, I suppose...!

Tenacity Salve: Treat your mind and body right - Give yourself the incessance and the can-do, never-say-die attitude of ringworm for less than $42 a day.

She has a shot with the right race setup.

It's a perfect situation for Zenyatta.

If Life wins, Zenyatta's competition question is mute, it already should be.

If she loses, it's expected, she traveled around the world to test the best.

The time for the females in horse racing is NOW.

Life is Sweet with Vodka, box it.

 Rachel earned HOY on the racetrack.

I didn't know Zenyatta ran in the Derby (the biggest N.A. race in terms of handle, attendance, media exposure) last year.

Yeah, we'll see.

Again, if Mr. Jackson owns this year's HOY you can be assured that horse will have earned it via their racetrack exploits, sans treaclely displays of fake retirements (which clearly don't work as well as they do in the music industry).

I never realized the recent Eclipse Awards were for this year's upcoming races rather than last year's accomplishments. You learn something new every day on this forum.

You are not the sharpest knife in the drawer. :D

If you don't think people are going to be saying Zenyatta was the deserving HOY after she beats Rachel at Oaklawn you are clueless.

People debate past things forever, or maybe not in your little make believe world.

Zenyatta could have taken care of this last year, but Rachel couldn't get on a plane to run in a 10f race against the world's top horses. She was busy celebrating her victory over the mighty Macho Again.

Every horse in the gate has a shot, but she'll have less of a shot than others. She's lost 2 of her last 3 not against Zenyatta and 5 of her last 6 overall (including 2 off the board finishes).

Good luck to her and her connections. They're going to need it.

I know and the only reason she killed the BC Championship field is because the race set up for her, and Zenyatta never beat anyone, that Gio Ponti is nothing.

You are entitled to your opinion sir, I respectfully disagree.

No, Gio Ponti is not nothing, he's also pointed for the DWC, so LiS would have to beat him, Twice Over, Gitano Hernando (winner of the Goodwood), plus maybe Vodka, and whoever else comes. At this point in time it looks like it will be a strong field.

You must have missed it. The world's best horses raced in Paris on October 4th. Care to explain how among the "world's best horses" racing in America's premier "dirt" race, no G1SW on dirt in 2009 could finish in the money?

Did Life Is Sweet not get a very fast pace to run at in the Breeders Cup?

I find it a bit telling that the 1-2 finishers in the BC Distaff just got dusted over the same track in a race demoted to a Grade 2.

And won by a horse scheduled to take on the boys:

"St Trinians, an impressive 1 ¾ lengths winner of Saturday’s Gr. II Santa Maria Handicap, will not face champion Zenyatta, as originally planned, in the Gr. I, $250,000 Santa Margarita Handicap on March 13, and will instead take on the boys in the Gr. I, $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap on March 6.

The point was that the "World's Best" Distaff race not featuring Zenyatta got exposed for the sham it was.

Now, for your point to be valid you have to put St. Trinians on the same pedastool as Zenyatta. Is that what you're saying?

Most Top Group/Graded races around the World are won by other than early and there were numerous Group/Graded winning horses beaten was there not??? so saying she never beat anyone is not quite correct.

I don't have a clue whether Life is Sweet has a shot in Dubai but I am fairly certain that 8.5F is sharpish for this mare. She'll probably run her A race.

I think this is a very shrewd move. The US (and Canada) has an edge on the rest of the world when it comes to synthetic surfaces, since they're the only ones who race some of their best stock over this type of surface.

The turf-to-poly angle is largely a myth, the synthetic is a 'specialist' surface just like turf and dirt are 'specialist' surfaces, especially at the highest level. My prediction: American horses will do very well at Dubai.

Maybe St. Trinians connections feel the field for the SA H'cap will be easier pickin's for her than Zenyatta would be?

For the DWC...isn't Richard's Kid going over there also? I really beleive the Wygod's are getting a little too ambitious with Life is Sweet...but, hey, ya never know...I'm sure she'll run a hell of a race over there, but, IMO, they are putting her in a very tough spot.
