What are you trying to do? I'm in a "no time to workout rut" but I have a lot of experience from my days in college sports, etc.

If you are looking for bodybuilding type stuff, then bodybuilding.com has all types of articles, etc. for that type of lifestyle as well as forums for supplements, nutrition, etc. Bodybuilding workouts in general are the type where you have a split with each bodypart worked out once or so per week.

I'm not into the bodybuilding stuff and since I played sports I still lift with an ego for strength and performance. I can help you if you are trying to go this route as far as strength, power, explosion go. Not so much for endurance type stuff (long distance running, etc.).

If you are just looking to get into ridiculous shape and for all around fitness (true crosstraining), I recommend crossfit. (www.crossfit.com). You probably won't be able to do the full workouts at first, but there are forums there where scaled down workouts are posted and everybody is VERY supportive and posts their times. You can see the daily workout posted each day right on the main page. There are also videos of all the exercises, substitutions, etc. Some of the workouts take as little as three minutes, and a lot of them are the type that make you feel like you're going to throw up more so than if you like to lift heavy where you feel pumped and like you can fall asleep after one set due to the exertion. A lot of people swear by it. I've tried it but it's not the type of stuff I like to do, but it is certainly hard.

Tx guys. I've been lifting for a few yrs and am looking for a way to progress more. Some guys at the gym suggested I vary my program to include more excercises that don't isolate the biceps and triceps, my two main focuses. They said indirect stimulation of those muscles can be just as beneficial and carries the added bonus of building other areas.

I once read...if you want bigger arms, then get bigger all over. If you build chest/back...your arms will have to get bigger/stronger to handle the load. I have lifted on and off over the years, and building up depends on how often/hard you work out. When i did 5 days/week...each day was for a different body part...chest,back,legs,shoulders then arms. Now i am on a 3 day/week routine...Mondays - chest/shoulders/biceps/abs Wed-Legs/abs Fridays- back/triceps/abs.
By following the 3day, i actually work the arms on 2 days, but only one of those workouts is an isolation workout...the other is more a complimentary workout. Keep up the routine !!! rbj

You can get an excellent full body workout doing 3 exercises: 1) bench press
2) chinups or lat pulldown 3) squats or leg press. The thinking is that bench not only works the pecs, but triceps and delts as well. Chins or pulldowns not only work the lats but biceps as well. Leg presses or squats work the quads but also the glutes, hamstrings and calves.

Don't be an "arm" bodybuilder.

Pavel in his book Power to the People makes a case that you can get an excellent full body workout with the deadlift, clean and press, and the pullup. Also, you could try kettlebells. I have been using them in my workouts and after about 30 seconds, I feel I have sprinted a 440.

Mark Rippetoe has a progression method also.

Yes, a trainer at mnr's fitness center once put me thru a kettle workout. It felt like a hard mix of strength and aerobic elements. He said kettles take fitness to a whole new level.

there is alot you can do with kettle bells. i do turkish getups with them and swings inbetween my legs and pass from one hand to the other behind my back for stability.
