of coarse we know the p3 payoffs are higher then a straight win parlay for those same three pk3 races, and that can be an advantage to you. but the disadvantages apply as well.
if you got a race or two with a couple of sure-shot longshots and the other leg or legs put your money at a greater risk then you care to take then your stuck. but hey, lets say you came up with 3,4,5 races with very good longshot potential and say that out of 4 races you really think your going to have at least two very nice payoff horses that would make any 3,4,5 race parlay a worthwile bet but you cant make a pk3 bet, exm. 1st and 4th race. or you just dont care to make a pick 3 bet. but you do want to combine these 3,4,5 races for the potential payoff it looks to provide.
well heres how you make that parlay for a dollar, 75 cents, 50 cents, even a quarter.

lets say you got 4 races with 5,5,4 and 2 horses
multiply 5x5x4x2 = $200

divide the $200 by the number of horses, 5, in the first bet
200/ 5 = 40

bet $40 on each horse in the first leg of the parlay

take the total winnings and divide by the number of horses in the next leg of your parlay and bet that amount on each horse.

say the horse pd $12.

then (40 x $12) + $40 = $520,
this $520 is divided by the 5 horses in the second leg of the parlay and that gives you $104 bet on each of the 5 horses in that next second leg.

add infinitum or infinitem or however you spell that word.

whats that you say, dont want to spring for the 200 fish that a $1 parlays gonna cost. well then how about a 50 cent parlay? sound a little less costly? well cant argue that one. same thing.

5x5x4x2 =200 but this time multiply it by .50 cents,
you get $100,

divide this by the 5 horses in the 1st leg of the parlay,
(100/ 5) = $20

$20 to be bet on each of the 5 horses in the 1st leg of the parlay. or
(5x5x4x2) divided by 5 horses in the 1st leg, multiplied by .50 cents

oh but you came to the ballgame a little short today, and the third base coach (wifey) put the squeez play on ya (money honey) and a 25 cent parlays all ya left to get that run across, then hey, it'll still work for a couple of 2 bits too.

a $1 parlay to as many races as you want to parlay

if you want to make that same parlay for 75 cents, you can
if you want to make that same parlay for 50 cents, you can
and if you want to make that same parlay for 25 cents, you can

if you have
5 horses in the 1st leg of a 4 horse parlay and
4 horses in the next with
5 horses in the next leg and
2 horses in the last leg then

if you want to play this parlay for $1
to find the total cost of the parlay
you multiply the number of horses in each race by the number of horses in the next race

5x5x4x2= 200, this parlay for $1 will cost $200, then

to find out how much money you will need to bet on each horse in the first leg of this 4 race parlay you will need to

divide the $200 buy the number of horses in the 1st leg of the parlay
$200 divided by 5= $40

you will need to bet $40 on each of the 5 horses in the 1st leg of this 4 race parlay

when one of the 5 horses in your 1st leg wins and pays say $12,
to find out how much you will need to bet on each of the 5 horses in the 2nd leg of the parlay you

take the total amount of the return on the winner in the 1st leg, including the $40 bet,
( 5-1 x $40 + $40)= $240 total return, and

to find the amount of money you will bet on each horse in the 2nd leg of the parlay you will
divide the total return of $240 by the number of horses in the next leg of the parlay
$240 divided by 5= $48

you will need to bet $48 on each of the 5 horses in the 2nd leg of the 4 race parlay, again

lets say you have another $12 winner, the total return comes to 5-1 x $48 + $48 = $288 total return. again

to find out how much to bet on each of the 4 horses in the 3rd leg of the parlay you
divide $288 by 4, (the number of horses in the 3rd leg) and
that comes to $72 to be bet on each of the 4 horses in the 3rd leg.

say you have a $7 winner. total return is $252 ( 2.5 x $72 + $72) to find out how much you will need to bet on the 2 horses in the 4th and last leg of the parlay you will need to

divide the toal return ($252) by the number of horses (2) in the 4th leg of the parlay
$250 divided by 2 = $126
$126 to be bet on the 2 horses in the last leg of the 4 race parlay

so now lets say you have an $80 winner, then you need to loan me some money.

the point is is this is the cost for a $1 parlay, and if you wanted to play for less of a cost then you can.
if you want to make that same $1 parlay instead for 25 cents, you can.

figure up the total cost for the same $1 parlay (5x5x4x2)= $200

multiply that total by .25 cents ($200 x .25 cents) = $50

divide that $50 by the number of horses (5) in the first leg of the parlay ($50 divided by 5) = $10

and $10 is the amount of money to be bet on each of the 5 horses in the 1st leg of the 4 race parlay.

you have a winner?
divide the total return by the number of horses in the next leg, and

this total will be the amount you will bet on each horse in the next leg, and so on thru the rest of the parlay.

sometimes there will be times when you will have doubled and even tripeled your money after the 1st or 2nd leg, and you just might want to say, hey you know what, i'am pretty happy rite now, think i'll just pass the dice right here, and hey you know what, you can. your not stuck with two or three more bets that you cant get out of as in the pk3s and 4s.

lets say youve trippeld your money after the first leg, well if you want to you can stop the parlay right there, and start a new parlay with the remaining 3 legs of the 4 race parlay.
your simply following the same proceedure/calculations for the 3 race parlay as you did with the 4 race parlay
5x4x2 = $40
$40 divided by 5 = $8

$8 to be bet on each of the 5 horses in the first leg of the now new 3 race parlay

if you play it for 50 cents then it will be $8 x .50 cents = $4 which will be $4 to be bet on each of the 5 horses.

a 25 cent bet will make it a $2 bet on each of the 5 horses.

hey, got anymore of that JD left :D

but yeah, you can have some fun with this

Nice Posts, Free. I remember reading how to make Parlays for just about any amt. in a book called Parlaymaster several yrs ago.
Then ole Doc Anthony pretty much did a "steal" and sold a few pages of a method he advertised with Dave Powers and they had the nerve to chatge $40 for it.

How do you get $520 from a $40 win bet on a $12 winner? A $12 horse is 5-1. You should get back $240, or slightly more if it paid 12.00 and change.

and just didnt feel like changing it, it was late for me and i was tired.

yeah lefty, thanks, i just got tired of getting beat in a pk3 race that i was forced to play, so one day i just figured this little formula out and when iwas thru i said hey this could be fun. and thing about this is, say out of 4 tracks you come up with 4 or 5 races and out of those 4-5 races you found a couple of big odds horses somrthing that you know will pay $12-$13 to show. well shit, you dont have to bet that horse to win, you can just bet him to show and win bet the other hoses that are a part of your play in that same race. and sometimes you'll hit a winner and you'll hit that show bet all in the same race.
say for instence you have 4 horses to bet in one of your parlay races and the bet calls for a $30 bet to be placed on each of those 4 horses. and one or even two of those 4 horses are sitting on the board at some nice long odds well you win bet the shorter odds horses and place, place or place, show or show, show bet the 2 longer priced horses. and conceiveably you can hit 3 out of the four bets made. wpp or wps, or wss.
this little stratagy takes away being forced into and locked away on a bet and allows for making considerations and reconsierations.
albeit the final payoffs for a 3 and 4 horse parlay will usually be less then the straight pk3s and 4s because the risk taking is less,
but hey it all comes out in the wash.

and as far as i know Lefty i'am the only one whos ever thought of this method of play, cause in my years of racing ive never heard of anything like this.
and hey you know what else Lefty, i'll betcha i could probably tout it and sell it. hmm think i'll give jim powers a call. but hey dont tell nobody about this. and if you see this being advertised in jim powers catalog as the "super sonic secret parlay system of the century" then hey you'll know i couldnt resist taking my shot at, and having my name etched in the annals of handicapping fame and glory, you know with guys like mike warren, kelso sturgon, shifty magee.

Free, I don't doubt you came up with this on your own but the concept's been around a long time. Bob Baker had it in his book Secrets Of Successful Turf Speculation back in the 50's and parlaymaster a few yrs ago has a whole bunch of similar formulas in their book and look in Dave Powers catalog for Robt Anthony's Parlay formula, much the same. After alll, it's just hand carrying parlays and when handcarried can be for any amt. Like you say, can bet $2.00 and start 8 .25 2 horse parlays etc. And Huey Mahl expounded on this concept for craps in a System & Methods article a few yrs ago, too.
It's good stuff.

i didnt think i was the only one who could have possibly of thought of something as simple as that, but id like to hear about that parlay deal with the craps sometime. cause i'll tell ya, boy do i love to get on that crap table, just get out of my way boss and hand me them bones. now ya got me going lefty, iam going to have to start another thread on craps. dont hardly know jack about the game but man sure like throwin them bones all over the place. even invented a system that on paper just cant lose...... yeah and the last thing i remember saying to myself after tapping out was, what the hell happened with this stupid a.. freaking system. i had it all figured out, how can this stupid a.. thing not work. well back to the drawing board.....

Free, I used to play a lot of craps myself. Tried about every system you could ever think of. 3 yrs ago playing happily at the Horshoe when I got this awful pain. I had to get a hernia repaired. Don't think standing at craps table caused it but it finished it.
Anyway, you take a buck, see and bet pass or don't pass. You just started 4 .25 parlays. Don't have the article handy so you take it from there.

i'll tell you about that crap system i devised sometime, see what you think. i mean it made sense, based on the percentages and probabilities that govern each throw. but i think i found out that personally the dice themselfs dont know nothin.:D

Free, when you get to playing pretty much a 50-50 game it's surprising how far away from the norm the pendulum swings.
Yrs ago i'm playing craps at Horshoe. I'm playing pass as is everyone except one lone old guy playing the don't. The shooter just keeps passing and the don't bettor is progressing his bets and getting killed. The shooter makes 9 passes and craps out. The don't bettor breathes a sigh of relief that the hand is over and says, "time for things to go my way."
Wellsir, next shooter proceeds to also make 9 straight passes. Somewhere during the hand the don't guy skulked away.

If you haven't, read "The Revised Dice Dr." by the late Sam Grafstein., you should.Really makes more sense than anything else on craps. The GBC still has it, I think.

my very own, you name it, i invented it, Super Bowl Crap System

hope you can read and laugh at the same time:D

its a count system playing the field bet:rolleyes:

as you know on the field bet you get the 2,3,4,10,11, and 12

12 rolls for and 24 rolls against

3-1 against you. 33.33% against you

payoff is 1-1

payoff should be 3-1. 33% against you

youve got 66.66 percent working against you

the system is this

count the number of rolls and the number of non field bets,

when the ratio for the non field bets is greater then 66.66% then the field bets should turn up.
iow the non field bets have shown up more then the 66.66 norm that makes this an even money bet and the field bets should begin to show up to balance itself back out.

by waiting for this %age ratio to turn up youve leveled off the even money odds against you and the 24 out of 36 non field bets against you

say the non field bets have shown up 62 times in 88 rolls
then that is a ratio of 70.45% (62/88 = 70.45)
this means the non field numbers have gone above the 66.66% ratio that make this an even money bet and that the field bet is an advantagious bet.

and i'll tell ya something Lefty when i was driving longhaul, and when the day was done, thats all i'd do would be to sit in my cab and just throw a pair of dice in a cardboard box for hours and record every throw and every number thrown. count it all out, add it all up and soab Lefty if sooner or later each point didnt always come out the way their odds say they were supposed to.

and dont tell me lefty, your first question is, so how does the super bowl part of the equation fit in to all this goround.....

Free, by now i'm sure you have figured out what went wrong with your system and the same applies to countless systems being sold. Your system and your theory presupposes you're gonna get even money on a bet that according to your probabilites is a good bet, i.e. overlay. Alas, every bet is an independent trial and the odds are fixed and there is no way to get an overlay in a fixed odds casino game. The dice(you've heard this one)have no memory. It's true, it's true. The reason so many people made money at BJ is because a deck of cards does have a memory. As cards are taken from the deck the composition changes and so do the probabilities.
I have seen the dice hot for long periods and the dice cold for long periods, defying all probabilities. Sadly, most of the time dice kinda chopping back and forth and taking do and don't players money with the same regularity.
Back in 76 I thght I had found a pretty good method. Hey, just Martingale(dble up)6 strght times. Not many 6 roll hands, right.
First time I ever tried this was at FouR Queens. I bet don't and after ea pass dbled up. Lost my starting BR first time I ever tried it. The shooter rolled 6 passes in a row.
I was back next night with a new BR and went broke again as once again a shooter rolled 6 passes against me.
One night, I was at Golden Gate though and using $5 min bet made over a $1000 using same method.
It's a fascinating game.

one nite iwas in reno and i had the dice, didnt know jack about what i was doin and man i started throwin all these numbers, people were yellin and jumpin up and down and after acouple more throws they started throwin money at me. thed hit a point and start toss'n chips over for the shooters bet yelling out, hey 10 hard for the shooter, bet pass for the shooter, give the shooter a hard 8, hey give the boys a hard 8, come bet for the boys. the kind of wild mad craziness your only going to see at a crap table.
lefty iam tell'n ya i had bets going for me all over the place and didnt even realize it, but the boys, the stickmen were taken care of me pretty good, keeping track of all the bets n all. i mean money was flying all over the place, and except for the fact that everyone was having a hat full of fun had no idea what was going on just that everyone was as happy as a beach full of clams.
when the dice fell and it was all over, i'll tell you this, the whole table made money. i made money, the stickmen made money, everybody and their brother made money. and me i walked out of their with one clam happy smile on my face as well.
have absolutely no idea how long i held the dice or how many passes i made or how many 7/11s i made on the come out, or how many come bets i made or hardways i made or anything, all i remember is being totally confused and having a blast at the same time. shesh
what a roll
