For those of you who get the DRF's Simulcast Weekly Charts, I was going thru the Belmont June 20 charts and noticed that layoff horses won every race except for one won by a first timer. It turns out the DRF downloaded the charts from June 20, 2002.

He he.....was this a "Greatist Hits" issue?

I noticed that too...its hit or miss if they will publish the missing charts in next week's issue, so I downloaded the charts from the net and inserted them in the right spot. The correct Beyers are listed in the back in the Winner's Book section.

Has anyone else noticed any missing pages for SW? I've read (part) of some articles that say to be continued on page .... only to find that page ... is missing.

For those making your own figs, Equibase has free DETAILED charts available seven days from the race.

Does anyone subscribe to HORSEPLAYER magazine and how would you rate it?

I called for a free sample, but they never sent it. Probably because it would've been the Breeders Cup issue.

Mildly interesting, three or four times a year. OVerall, a major disappointment. For these reasons:

1. You would think the word Player would imply the focus was on handicpaping. It tends not to be as much as it should ATM is far more player oriented.
2. No Satatoga coverage as of last year...why? Becasue Sar wouldn't play ball with them and contribute to adverstising or something. When I questioned them about this, they took the stance that they had to look out for their accounting department oand bottom line and that it was in my best interest for them to ignore Sar...when I asked them why I should possibly care and that Sar was the premier track in the nation, they acted like I was a loose cannon.
3. They are impossible to get ahold on the phone...email only. Days later.
4. For years, poor distribution..always late, in fact one year, my Breeder's cup issue came literally in the middle of the BC card.
I should be happy, then next year, it came a week after the event.
5. Lack of quality writers-really offering less than steller article most issues.
6. CRAPPY printing....trying to print over colored glossy backgrounds makes it hard to read..isn't that why we buy it?

Don't get me wrong, I subscribe and will renew (today, in fact) but to put in perspective, I go to the snaclk bar and buy a hot dog, grab a packet of mustard and head back to my seat. HP is the packet of mustard, not the hot dog. I like it, use it, make the effor to get it, but it were not there, I could always use catsup.

(Off topic...which is it catsup or ketchup? Is there a difference?)

I am a long time subscriber to SW.........all these critical comments are true, and they really need to make some corrections.
Are you reading us, DRF people?
I'm sure they will correct the Belmont error......Steve C. uses those charts.

That SW error really befuddled me. I was starting to do some key races for maiden races and when I got to the June 20 issue, I couldn't find the races for the winners!

Hey Mark at DRF: Print a correction and all is forgiven. (Even MY publication makes mistakes once or twice a year.)

Once or twice a year...I wish! Still, it usually delivers what I need. Still a little irritated with the Winner's Book dates not matching up with the Charts dates, but hopefully it will be addressed in the new version Marc at DRF says is coming soon.

As for HorsePlayer...

I have every issue, and I mean every one. Even back to the days when they regionalized an issue, I have both. It was a quality publication for awhile, but it has gone downhill faster than an Olympic skier. I still get it, as every now and then a tidbit pops up that interests me. But overall, I'd save the money if I hadn't been with them so long. Probably put all those issues on e-bay soon, but this post won't be in the description!

Sorry guys, I was on vacation last week (I know, not allowed).

Looking into Simo Weekly error to see if it was corrected yet, or is going to be...

And the new Simo Weekly is launching in the next couple months.

Says Simo Weekly editor:

"The June 20, 2003 charts were published the following week. We regret the error."

Shacopate, American Turf Monthly, even with all its horses to watch list, has it all over Horseplayer. ATM does not recieve many favorable comments from this forum. I just think it has more for the horse player. JimL

I eventually had to give them both a "divorce".
