Excerpt:

Baffert quote

"Because these tracks, they don't like to ask the other guys," Baffert said. "If somebody's doing well, for some reason nobody works together. Dennis Moore is the only guy that's figured these things out. So if I'm going to bring somebody in, I'll bring Dennis in and pay him to help these guys out. He's the only guy that knows. I know it sounds logical, but it's too easy, it's too simple. Everybody hates everybody in racing, and that's the problem."

As an example of the "everybody hates everybody" mentality check this out:

This is part of the criminal masterminds in racing series starring Richard Shapiro who admitted to the crime and was given probation.

Don’t know if you saw the “Keying” videos from the Hollywood Park surveillance cameras. They are up on You Tube. The 11 segment series is on You Tube. They are from Claimboxx.

The personal hatred and rivalries seem to be hurting Horse Racing more than anything. Nothing will get done if this type of stuff continues.

Some friends of mine on the backside always talked about writing a soap opera titled 'As the walker turns', using real backside activities as the story line but we figured no one would see it as believable.

It is a unique place.

By the way, that is a confusing, incomplete excerpt, AM.

I don't hate you for that, though.

Also from that piece:

Zenyatta's trainer, John Shirreffs, was not weeping when he heard about Santa Anita's decision. He thinks Zenyatta is an even better horse on dirt, if that's possible, and the fact she ran on synthetics might have affected Horse of the Year balloting.

"You see these crocodile tears?" Shirreffs said sarcastically. "Now the question is, did that cost (Zenyatta) Horse of the Year?"

That's why the thread title is in the form of a question. I think.

I'm glad you don't hate me. :)

Excerpt:

Former CHRB chairman Richard Shapiro is everybody's favorite whipping boy these days, and he should be. The decision to mandate synthetic surfaces in California, without a full study as to the effects it would have in the industry as a whole, was one of the worst, if not THE worst move, in the history of California racing. He's even admitted he blew it. Even though Shapiro is gone now, the CHRB continues to make us shake our heads, too, by increasing the takeout in betting at Los Alamitos at a time when fans are fed up to begin with. But that's another story entirely. Incoming chairman Keith Brackpool was the lone dissenter in a 6-1 vote, and he should be applauded for opposing the measure.

There is no question that the "hatred" of synthetic surfaces cost Zenyatta a few votes. Not enough to win though.

My hunch is that jealousy plays a huge role in every sport. Fans though, don't get that full vibe from participants because envy is an easy emotion to conceal.

I know that we haven't been talking about betting, but I think that the mindset being discussed extends to the pari-mutuel aspect of racing as well, where it's everyone against everyone else, both from a payoff standpoint and an information perspective.

He does it more than once. It's not as clear as it could be.

hard to prove it was him. I guess he just admitted to doing it, but from those videos, i mean, you can't really see faces, if he denied it, he could have probably won a victory with a good lawyer.

I think they could identify the car he got out. When they followed him into the entrance he was easier to identify.

But, if you can't see the license plate, i'm not sure how you can identify the car. I'm not suggesting he didn't do it, but in a court of law, you gotta prove these things better than some grainy black and white video that's not in HD. I guess a lawyer would make his case and the defense lawyer could say show me the video of the license plate, which obviously, no one has.

He confessed.

I understand that. I'm just saying that technically he might have been able to 'get off' if he didn't admit it. I'm not suggesting he didn't do it, i'm just thinking like a lawyer.

Does anyone remember the trainer probanly from the early seventies that said this ?
"The Only Thing Wrong With The Horses (horseracing) Are The People".
