Hope this will be interesting to follow along. Nothing new here just a "let it ride" on win and place bets for one tracks card for one day. Could start with any amount but to score will start with $6 win and $6 place on each selection. Will round off to make the scoring easy. Example say the first pick wins and the total return is $43.60. The next pick would get a bet of $20 & $20 place. Not $21 and $21. Make at least two picks on a card at any track. No limit on numbers of tracks in a day. Just no "carryover" from one track to another or from one day to another. I'll start with some for today at Freehold and The Meadows.

Freehold
R2 2 Sporty Callie
R4 6 Princess Julia
R10 3 Lizzie Mcardle

Meadows
R1 3 In The Proverbials
R5 1 Matt's Pick
R13 2 Anotherama A

The "gold mine" with this is of course to have all of your picks for the day/track to win. You can still do well however if one wins and one or more others finish second. If your last pick of the day wins or places you could avoid a "wipe-out" as all "let it ride" plays end with that race.

Anyone is welcome to join in on this. See if people find it interesting. I see my Western Penna friend Ray has two picks for the card at Northfield tonight so that his play. :) Only requirement is at least two picks per card. I called this thread "Let it Ride" in honor of my all time favorite horse movie. Not realistic at all but a real fun movie. To any younger folks who have not seen it I'm sure they would enjoy, even if not a fan of racing.

Ray I'm really into the pic3/pic4 bet which really is a parlay. Just with the pic bets you get to "spread" with multiple picks in the grouping. A lady friend of mine who is a regular s-bred player and keeps extensive records has used the "let it ride" plays and shows a profit doing so. Note she does keep selected long shot plays out of the let it ride plays. Just bets them as "stand along" plays. So I hope the "end is NOT here" With this you do get to pick and chose your races and not a set group as in a pic3/4 play. Might be something for newer s-bred players to follow or have some fun with. Plus she has me convinced that I might even find it interesting. :D

The Meadows for today is listed as "abandoned" what does that mean? maybe that Ray informed them he would not be making his big bets today? :) Have some for M1 and YR tonight but they may be a "snow job". Will wait and see.

beaucap--That's the spirit. :D I'll root for you except in race four. :)

LottaK----I wish they would use the term "cancelled" makes more sense. :) So far no a flake to be found in North Wales or at Freehold. Meadows area has snow already? I still think Ray called them and said he would not be making his usual big bets on there races. :D I'll be rooting for beaucap to get his three horse remaining plays home. And of course mine in race ten. :)

Melman,
How do your results compare with just putting a consistent WP bet on each selection without the wipeout factor? For the amount bet, just average what you've wagered across all of your races since you started this experiment on PA.

Ray2000
02-09-2010, 05:31 AM
Mel,

Interesting Experiment, I like the "pick any race" factor and the place bet acting something like insurance, but andicap poses a good question. Maybe I'll start keep records. :)

melman
02-09-2010, 08:39 AM
Andi--Since this went "on-line" 16 selections with 9 wins. If you bet all 16 wp at the 6 win 6 place level which I am using for this "let it ride" play your would have bet $192 return $77.70. As Ray mentioned having the place item helps like "insurance". For you to have a loser your horse must finish 3rd or worse. That helped Ray last night when he had two winners and one place on his three selections. The way the lady who does this explained it if your first couple lose you still would bet your last pick of the day/track. Thus if you had three picks on any one track your would stand to lose $36 using the $6wp starting figure. She keeps extensive records via her computer and does quite well with it. She has said to me that having the place part of this is key. She also on a separate basis bets selected longshots.
Note--Not all or for that matter most of my picks have been m/l fav's. Had some 8-1 and many 5-1 m/l horses. One at Freehold was 5-1 line and paid $3.20 :) One yesterday was 4-1 line and paid $4.60. Ya just never know for sure.

melman
02-09-2010, 09:30 AM
Ray--Does not have to be three picks on a card. I have seen on her list anywhere from two picks per card to four. In the summer time with lots of tracks open there can be a LOT of action.

Ray2000
02-09-2010, 09:38 AM
Mel

We're locking in our picks for this little paper experiment, which of course is not the case in real life where one can always defer to another race if the odds look crappy. Also if the 1st leg hits with a double digit price, I would pull the original bet and only parlay the profit. Makes you think you're playing with OPM even if that's not really the case. :)

I hear ya Ray good points. However if you do "let it ride" you have to make that commitment. And for scoring purposes on this board it's a whole lot easier with "locked in" picks. ;) Plus this lady does have a very good record with "locked in" picks. Can't make anymore than one track (Monticello) for today because who knows what track will even race tonight or tomorrow. Is Meadows still "abandoned". :bang: Even Dover went down yesterday.

Posting this from deep in my snow bunker. :) And it' still coming down.

8 track totals

Bet $180 Return $229 Plus $49

The downside of this "let it ride" play is what happened to Ray last night. Two winners then in the last race a loser.
The upside is I have made a lot of wagers with my highest win price being $11 and change yet am showing a solid profit on money wagered. I score a little different from what Ray did. I always use a multipier of 2. i.e. 6 win 8 win 10 win 12 win 14 win no mater the total. I just "round down" to the lowest "easy" number. I'll see if I can come up with some Balmoral for tonight. Tha's if the snow does not block my vision. :(

melman

Ray---It is something to consider. Easy to modify the play by just not betting if one of the "let it ride" legs is way to low in odds. Example was one of your at Yonkers last week. The last leg was 3/5. Since that was the last leg just take your winnings and go home. :) For me today at Freehold my last leg was a horse at 2/5 however since it was not the last race of the day I moved my last bet to Besmo who won and paid $6.20. Before I started this little workout had a few hits like the one you got tonight. Only thing I found important is to not carry over from one track to another or one day to another. Also to have no set rule on how many horses to include in the "let it ride". I'll end this little workout here but you may like to try it on paper or for real with small amounts. Nice ROI on the night at Yonkers Mr Ray. :)
