Getting tired of watching her start losing and then pull up with some fake injury....then she starts playing better and gets back in the match....goes on to win.......and never limps again!

Then in a post match interview, if she wins it's because of her greatness and if she loses, it's because she couldn't play well due to fighting through some injuries.

She always manages to toss a limp or grimace in there if she is in danger of losing......that way she always has an excuse.

The Williams sisters are screamers and grunters on every shot they hit.
I don't like that.
They are, like it or not, winners.

Serena is an awesome player, but on the rare times she loses....it's always an injury or a linesperson or the sun bounced off somebody's glasses or somebody coughed when she served or a low flying bird made her miss or the court was slippery or the tv timeout was too long or her opponent got unfair coaching or her water tasted funny......could go on for a long time here....!

All great athletes have the trait of blaming environmental circumstances for happenings that do not go right. That is part of their psyche.
Check that out across sports.

It is Serena's psyche, that's for sure. Even today, months after her childish tirade that cost her the US Open, she still can't/won't accept the fact that she was wrong:

“Ninety-two thousand dollars is a lot of money to fine someone,” she said. “I always said what I did wasn’t right, but I turned that around and I’m actually raising $92,000 to educate ladies, women, also for my school in Africa.”

What does she mean, I'm raising $92K? Is she asking other people to donate money for her? What a load of crap; she is a megamillionaire. That money is pocket change to her. "I'm raising", "My school"; Somehow, she still thinks she is the victim. BS. I wish she would go away forever.

I see that the Williams sisters won and lost, seems that a Chinese gal knocked one (Venus) out from the Aussyopen... that's some change.

Li Na, most likely she's got respect for the game. i'd like to see that match.

A few years back @ The Indian Wells tournament Venus was to face Serena in the finals. One of them, I believe Venus, feigned an injury the night before the match. Supposedly they couldn't bear facing each other for a title. Venus had a couple of bandaids on her knees for proof.

Fans were outraged as they had bought tickets to the event. I laughed and went to Givenchy for a spa. Then went to the casino and lost a bundle playing blackjack on third base. Last time I've been on that base.

Say what you want about Serena or Venus, but the fact of the matter is that they ARE American Tennis. The casual citizen may be able to name Roddick, but most Americans can name ONLY the Williams sisters when asked to name a USA player.

We've all seen Tigers tirades or Jordans bitching....it goes with the territory. At least Venus and Serena havent been involved in any criminal trouble, no drugs, no TMZ type bullshit, etc...

Serena's US Open rage out was very bad, but that was quite awhile ago and I havent heard of any similar behavior since. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. In other words, I forgive her.

IMO, Serena could beat any woman who ever played this game. She is a top 3 all time female player in my book along with Navratilova and Graf.

Not hardly. Plenty of top players in their sports don't act like jackasses when things don't go their way. I never saw Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, Bjorn Borg, Peyton Manning...I could go on and on...bitch about anything, especially right in the middle of their games. All that competive fire stuff is BS; she lacks the decorum the sport demands.

Well if you didnt see it then it didnt happen right? How would you know what a football player says on the field? You have no idea what Manning, Montana and Sanders said on the football field. Those guys arent mic'd up. Tennis and golf are individual sports and everything they say is heard. All eyes are on them at all times. Manning and Montana bitch teammates out ALL THE TIME in the middle of games. You just dont know exactly what theyre saying. It could be a rude personal attack for all you know.
My bottom line as far as Serena is concerned is this: Greatest female American tennis player ever.

I agree about her talent. Last night was quite an accomplishment considering she was far from 100% physically.

What I do know about all those guys I mentioned is that none of them have ever been fined for their behavior. Serena has, but I think she might have learned her lesson after the display at the US Open. I hope so, because she doesn't get much love from the fans when she travels abroad. And bitching out your teammates is completely different than berating an official.

Believe me, Manning and Montana have hollered at a ref before. We dont know what they said.

I just dont wanna say anything bad about Serena. If she finds out she might just, "shove this f%$#ing tennis ball down my f@#$ing throat."

And we dont want that!
I hear ya, she isnt the most gracious player to ever take the court. But as a big tennis fan (I must love dying sports---tennis,horseracing) I have to give the Williams sisters mega maxi credit for keeping US Tennis afloat. Without them the sport would be dead here. Venus is always a lady and very polite. Maybe its the older/younger dynamic that gave Serena her attitude. Younger ones tend to be more spoiled...

#1 - Roid rage perhaps !! Steroid use has been associated with violence on more than one occasion. Does the USTA do random testing ??

#2 - Martina may have held her own IMO

Violence? Where was the violence? Do you think she ACTUALLY intended to shove the ball up the refs arse?
Are you really opening the debate of Serena and steroids? Dont leave Martina out of that conversation...some thought she was a dude!

Ofcourse this is pure opinion (like Babe Ruth v Clemens), but I believe Serena would overpower Martina.

I'm glad she showed no signs of an injury in the final. She was never in danger of losing.

But, if Henin after winning the second set, had then went up a break in the third, I have a feeling those lingering injuries would have popped up.

she could be, but it sure looks like her natural build. She is the type to battle weight, if she didn't play tennis she may be 250-300lbs "BBW"

Serena Williams is as oversized physically as Ben Johnson was in the 1988 Seoul Olympics 100m men's final.

She exhibits all the classic traits of a performance-enhanced athlete, including the inflated muscle mass for her height-weight proportion, aggressive nature, anger issues, and subsequent break down from injuries after not using them (as much) anymore.

She is Marion Jones in a tennis skirt. In ten years, when the stories come out as they have with McGwire, et al now, she will be in need of a giant asterisk as much as they are crying for baseball to institute now for that era.

Amelie Mauresmo was quite the physical specimen as well.
Never heard a word about her and PEDs. If Billy Jean King were playing today ya'll would be all over her. Ever seen her legs? Shorter people look as though they have thunder thighs (the good kind) when they develop a lot of muscle. Dont confuse this with thunder ass, which Serena has in abundance.

I see your point...she could probably kick my ass! But lets not crucify her just yet. I think a lot of extra heat comes from the fact that folks just dont like her.

a physically dominant athlete is always going to have a polarized fan base, particularly if she is an arrogant, unforgiving, African-American woman in a predominantly white arena.

That was Sammy Sosa.

Doesnt tennis drug test?

Guys, did she ever have an episode like the US Open before? That defines her in your eyes? Think of how many figures have had an episode of anger/hostility/rage....Hal McRae, Ryan Leaf, Dennis Green, Jim Mora, and on and on. That coach for Okie State, "I'm a man, I'm forty!"

It doesnt make them rageaholics(cant get enough of that rageahol!). You are what you repeatedly do. When she repeats it I will agree with you.

These Serena on the juice folks are displaying laughable ignorance with respect to tennis as a sport, roids as a performance enhancer, and Serena's mesomorphic physique.Take a look and the very best tennis players Federer,Sampras ect. Big bulky guys?Of course not, because the have to have the stamina to run for 4 hours.Roids would reduce a tennis players endurance due to enlarging the musculature beyond the capacity of the cv system to support it.Photos of Serena as a 16 or 17 year old clearly show a mesomorphic sprinter's physique that would develop with years of running and lifting.Hey she's got an attitude sure I get it you don't like her,but to suggest the she's a tennis champion because she's on roids makes those who spout this nonsense look like ignorant jackasses.

I knew this was coming....:rolleyes:it's possible she could be on a mild steroid regimine. I wouldn't say it's impossible. Theres always the slight possibility she began taking them relatively recently to try to get back into shape when her game had slipped a little.
However she is naturally a big woman and obviously hasn't gotten big from steroids. She would be 250-300lbs if she didn't work out.
her mother (blonde hair below) probably near 99% sure that she didn't take steroids and although she lacks the height is well over 200lbs, here she is pictured with VENUS (not serena) williams her sister below,
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LGX-ae7EQBI/SMWhWkPbUHI/AAAAAAAAElw/s3Ny3ItWU4A/s400/VenusFashionWeek3.jpg

it's natural to hate a physically dominant athlete. Hoards of ignorant fans discredited Shaq for being physically dominant. Shaq isn't even arrogant and plays the role of KAZAAM the giant CLOWN. If Tiger Woods had been arrogant and defiant he would have been the most hated athlete of all time. People aren't open minded, we are ignorant. How dare Serena be so aggresive and crush her helpless white opponents. Don't worry eventually she will get wore down, have a series of injuries or get past her prime... then we'll revel in her defeat.

Firstly, let me say that I don't "hate" Serena Williams. She is truly one of the finest, most talented female tennis players in history. Her skills on the tennis court are unquestionably elite.

Secondly, race, for me, or the "African American in a white arena" argument doesn't enter in my opinion. For many it's hard to ignore, but that's the world in which we live.

I have followed the steroid use thing ever since 1988 because of the BEN JOHNSON affair (I am Canadian, so it got covered ad nauseum here at that time).

I followed the McGwire/Canseco story from that time on because the A's were winning and the rumours we rife right then and there.

Serena has always had a "sprinter's physique" it's true. But compared to the average female tennis player that has ever played, her physique goes against every natural looking woman on the circuit during her entire career. That, in and of itself, makes her stick out like a sore thumb. But again, it in no way automatically indicts her for anything.

But if you've followed her career, especially back in 2003 when she took "time off to go shopping and live life" for awhile after her knee injury, you'll see some of the same signs of steroid users before her. If you recall, it was about 2003 when "the cream and the clear" was the method of choice thanks to BALCO for all athletes that were on the stuff, and when investigations were about to begin into BALCO.

She stopped playing tennis for a time at that point because she was in the process of "getting off the juice" before her knee injury hit. Many believe that the injury was due in part to the withdrawal of the steroid use from her system.

When she tried to return after rehab clean, she couldn't get back to her 100% self without the doctor's help. When she returned from her sabbatical, she was noticeably bigger in stature physically than when she left to recuperate.

Again, none of this is offered as proof that she has used steroids, but to discount steroid use automatically because there is no public evidence yet is just as foolhardy.

I fully believe that she, like Barry Bonds in baseball, was already talented enough to have been superstars in their respective sports before the noticeable body changes became glaringly apparent during their careers.

Seeing how she has dominated her sport given her obvious height-weight advantage over her opponents, is both impressive and not surprising. It's like having no weight classes in boxing, and then being surprised a heavyweight is dominating a welterweight (clumsy analogy).

My personal opinion, for what it's worth, is that she has used PHD in her career and benefited from that over time. I could be wrong, but I believe I'm not.

Robert Fischer

more than fair.
