ACTING HAPPY won her debut today in the seconde race at GULFSTREAM. usually you never want to see a good horse make their first start going a mile and an eighth the first time out of the gate. DUTROW knew exactly what he had going into the race and knew she was going to need a 2 turn debut. it looks like he wanted to make sure that his filly was involved in the race from start to finish reguardless of the outcome. she didn't have enough speed to be on the pace in a sprint race. as it turns out th filly won the race and galloped out beautifully. she got an awfull lot out of this race and i truly expect her to make a giant step forward.

DICK DUTROW has proved to me that he knows exactly what he is doing in this game at all times. you don't have to second guess the man, he brings results to the table.

that was quite possibly the slowest 9F race i have ever seen in my life.

Was the rider of the favorite , the seven horse ok ? I read he was unseated.

BTW Acting Happy has a nice pedigree Empire Maker / I Ain't Bluffin .
The Pine Bluff mare won 8 out of 13 races while hitting the board 11 times at age three and four. With several graded stakes to her claim.

i'm not saying she isn't good, i'm just saying she is going to have to do more than win a race she's bred all day to win to get on my oaks list.

the first timer out at santa anita today was more impressive IMHO

the first timer out at santa anita today was more impressive IMHOACTING HAPPY was as green as can be. i was just pointing out that DUTROW had to start someplace with her, i think he is just giving her her best shot to improve. naturally she doesn't look like the oaks winner with this race past her. she certainly has talent, and i am sure DUTROW will work on the speed end of things before her next start. the horse has a lot to learn now before she can even attempt to take on winners. chances are that she will not be ready to run against top calliber horses by the time the oaks roles along. but she certainly could be real good by the summer.

DUTROW often gets criticized here, i just wanted to point out a great training job in my opinion.

mid 80's for first time starter is not bad considering she ran greenly. After one out i would say shes legit but i would definetely have to see how she runs against winners.
