On my way home this evening from GP I decided to detour over to CRC and check out the new Casino. The new parking lot was jammed, the Casino was rockin and it's 3/4 days before their offical opening. If this is an indication of the future for CRC the horsemen (Owners, Trainers, jocks and backstretch help) are in for some good times.

When they opened the Poker room back in December, 1 maybe 2 of the 29 tables were full when I left for the evening, tonight more than 1/2 were running and there were people waiting in line. Looks like they got another winner.

As someone who has been out of the country and not really paying attention, I have to ask: What has Calder done right that Gulfstream did not? Why has GP's racino been such a disaster and CRC's future looks good?

What do the horseplayers get out of Calder Casino? Lower takeout? An occasional guaranteed Pick 4 or Pick 6 pool? Anything at all? I hope they at least get free parking and admission. The horseplayer always gets left out of the slots revenue bonanza. I'm just waiting for the day that a racetrack with slots revenue, that is truly committed to the racing game, decides to lower the takeout and grow the racing handle. It seems like a win/win situation to me. I just don't see how the reliance on slots revenue is good for the game, unless the revenue can somehow be used to lower takeout and grow the handle.

I predict that the novelty will wear off with the casino at CRC. Perhaps why it is doing better is that CRC seems to attract more "gamblers" and less horseplayers while the opposite is true of Gulfstream. With GP's renovations they neglected their base and with calder's they are catering too them. I'm sure on-track handle will dive due to the slots but other than that they should do well.

Calder's takeouts are way too high $$$ on exotics....they also allow late batch betting in to the pools well after the gates open. I no longer patronize their racing. If ever a track could benefit from evening post times in the opressive summer...you would think it would be them.

May I ask where you got this information from?

Could it be because you've never had to handle any "envious" people? :faint::D

Remember the scene in "This is Spinal Tap" when the band is looking at the marquee only to see that they got second billing to a puppet show? That's horse racing now. Go to some tracks websites and you have to dig to find the horse racing links.

How are the horse racing numbers and fans since the casino opened? I probably could make a good guess.

Gulfstream's casino was hot when it first opened too, but GP has a lot more neighboring competition. Calder has some, but less.
