I'd love to purchase Rachel's saddlecloth for one of her 2009 wins.

The auction has no picture of the ticket. I would ask, was it a ticket from Preakness Day at Pimlico, or was it an advanced wagered ticket from some podunk OTW site?

Also, the ticket was not bid up to $15, that was his starting price, and there were no bids on that, nor were there bids on the relisted auction.

Lotta Kim halter went for $382.

Zenyatta halter (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250563245212) just closed for $3,427.07.

Just goes to shows Moms get no respect.

That's the opening bid, nobody has yet placed a bid on the item.

Besides, these new tickets don't last nearly as long as the old fashioned tickets. I saved a ticket from 8 years ago and the ink has nearly faded completely off. They'll have to laminate it to keep the printer ink on.

That will be interesting since most tickets don't use ink but are printed using a thermal process like a FAX machine.
There are 2 types of lamination one that uses glue, the other uses heat. I don't know what the glue would do, but the heat would turn it black.

Light, heat and moisture will cause them either to fade or turn black, then fade.

I have several Funny Cide win tickets that I sealed in a commercial "seal a meal", then put each one inside a Belmont program and sealed that. They're still in pretty good condition.

And, unfortunately, they'll get less bids by not doing it through an established auction site, both through less awareness of the auction, and reluctance to bid through an 'unknown' entity. Their site also doesn't seem to say how long the auction runs, or talk about a letter of authenticity (an absolute requirement for serious collectors).

You're right in ALL points. It's a shame as this could/should bring as much or more than the Zenyatta halter if presented properly.

I have auto searches in on ebay that let me know when something that I want is listed.

Wish I had the money to buy such things...but...IMHO, I beleive the auctioning of these types of items...Zenyatta's halter, Rachel's halter, any champion's tack...would be better served if the owners of these items got in touch with rescue facilities, like Old Friends or the Kentucky Horse Park and had them auctioned so the money would benefit these facilities and the horses they care for.
That $3,500.00 someone paid for Zenyatta's halter would have bought a lot of bags of feed, paid for a lot of hoof trims, bandages, run in sheds ect.

That's an excellent idea. I've always thought a small add-on to the selling price at sales/auctions is also a good idea. Why not have the breeders/consigners pay a little upfront?

Joanie, all the tack we've talked about in this thread has been auctioned by rescue/retirement operations. The ticket, I assume, was a individual.
The Zenyatta halter was auctioned on Ebay by Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue (http://www.sctbrescue.org/). The Rachel halter is being auctioned directly through the site of Remember Me Rescue (http://www.teamkeen.com/), run by Donna Keen, the wife of trainer Dallas Keen. The Lotta Kim halter was auctioned on Ebay by Our Mims Retirement Haven (http://www.ourmims.org/), which is focused on providing a home for pensioned broodmares. They have started a new auction of a halter from Octave (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130360846748), currently at $149 (ends Jan 26, 2010 20:00:01 PST. Breeding farms and the connections of many top horses still in training routinely donate tack for auction to help retirement and rescue organizations.

And, if you've got a few years, and roughly $150 (+tax) to spend, you can put your name on the waiting (and waiting) list for a halter from one of the guys at the Kentucky Horse Park's Hall of Champions: (http://www.kyhorsepark.com/sub.php?pageid=16&sectionid=1) Cigar, Funny Cide, Da Hoss, and their Standardbred pals. [They still have Kona Gold up, strange.]

FB, I still don't see any bids. And the auction is supposed to be over in about 15 hours or so, right?

This price tag is UNREAL! These people have lost their everloving minds!:faint:

Its just a 2 bedroom condominium for heaven sake. Box seats for 6--that's nice and all for being trackside. But if you have six in your group, come nightfall in your 7.5k rental, where are the other two gonna sleep? . . . . in sleeping bags on the damn floor???

What a hoot. One can stay in Saratoga for the entire meet for less than this. Much less.

They should be throwing in a driver, a chef, and a 1K bankroll for each guest at this price.

I wanted to see if there were tickets w/o accomodations? Of course, there are; and more will probably come along throughout the month of March. LOL

Do you get your 7,500 back if Rachel or Z 'stubs her toe' and can't make the race? In fact, if one of them stubs, i believe that the other one won't race either since the purse will be reduced dramatically.

I noticed the RA bobbleheads given away at Oaklawn are fetching $30.00 and up....50,000 trading cards are supposed to start circulating as well.....

I thought that was reasonable, figure by the time you spend your day, waited in line, found parking, paid admission......$30 for not having to go to Oaklawn that day is a steal. :D

The day they were giving them away I was at the track, most of the people who showed up to buy them disappeared shortly afterwards....i.e., they were not people who supported racing there or the track. Parking lot cleared out when racing started.

Personally I have no interest in plastic chochkies, I leave that to 14 year old girls. :D

Agreed....However hardcore racing collectors will pony up the cash for these toys.....I've sold a couple of old Derby glasses I have setting around for $100 and more-go figure.....
