Just saw them mentioned in a thread here. Wow,never really knew about them. I see there's some old threads about them here in the search. So what's the info on them. How many members? What have they accomplished or maybe things they have blocked or bad ideas they have forced tracks to overturn, etc? I guess just a rundown :D

Also, how long have they been around?

Q. What bad things have we blocked or forced tracks to overturn?

A. Not much.

That said, I stood up at the CHRB meeting yesterday and as HANA's president spoke out against a proposed takeout increase.

For reasons that I posted earlier in another thread on this site... http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/showpost.php?p=817267&postcount=13 ... the CHRB voted in favor of the increase over our objections. However, the increase is not permanent. It was voted in with a Sunset Clause or expiration date of 9/08/2010.

That said, earlier today one member of the CHRB emailed to tell me:

"Hi, Jeff:

I thought you did a great job communicating the opposition of bettors to takeout increases and pointing out how higher takeout can lead to lower handle and revenue. I had not heard any suggestion prior to the meeting for a sunset clause in the increase, so as far as you and I know, you and others opposing the increase were successful in getting that sunset clause included. I really don't know all that went into that decision - but your comments must have at the very least reinforced any inclinations in that direction."

About us... We are a not for profit corporation formed in Sept 2008. We currently have more than 1500 members who collectively wager more than $65 million a year.

Our mission statement is giving horseplayers a voice.

One positive thing for players we have accomplished to date:

Equibase Scratches and Changes
http://www.paulickreport.com/blog/equibase-gets-it-right/

In Oct 2009 Equibase rolled out the Scratches Today part of their website. This is something that had never existed before... a player resource enabling players to go to one place on the web where they can get scratches and changes in real time. We were involved in this project all the way from design phase to roll out to communicating with tracks to get them to use it.

Our primary focus to date has been quietly growing membership and making the racing industry more and more aware of racing customer needs and wants.

There are a number of player positive projects that we are working on. Hopefully we will be able to make announcements about some of those soon.

Ok thank you very much Jeff. Shame they disregarded you and HANA at the takeout meeting. They just really don't care  I will definately become a member though. Thank you for the info and time.
