The ironic thing would be if the she became a specialist on the " plastic " since according to JJ her Daddy hated it. ;)

I'm not sure what JJ says matters to me. I watched him run over plastic, and even though he was off his best performances several months prior, he did not run well over plastic. Only someone with an anti-JJ bias would think that Curlin liked plastic or that the jury was still out on that issue. He was a dirt horse.

I wish they'd run a photo of Curlin Jr.
Also in the news...first foal from The Green Monkey was born...and don't laugh...it'd be quite the 'joke' if his get starts winning in 2 yrs...he does have the pedigree!

Just thought it was interesting that two first foals from one of the best, and one of the worst race horses were born almost on the same day:)

She looks like she has some spirit to her. I liked the name one of the commenters proposed, Zophie's Curl.

Based on the photo, she has that high knee action you want from a runner.

Yeah, that's an OK name, I thought...but I am very hard to please when it comes to naming horses (and dogs)...it's going to be way difficult for owners to name these Curlin babies using his name in some way...unlike a stallion named Tiznow, that has hundreds of name possibilites:)

and tucker6...they ALL have spirit at this age...besides nursing and napping...all they want to do is run and frolic...and if you have never seen a bunch of babies like this together in a field, you are missing something wonderful...of course, it takes about 2 to 3 weeks before the mare will allow her baby to play with the other babies...but once that hurdle is passed...it's all out fun:jump:

:D yeah...I had quite a chuckle at this photo...but at just days old, foals are still finding their legs...they all look like they have tiny springs under their feet, their legs will reach higher than normal because they are still not very co-ordinated...it's really quite a treat to watch a foal find himself...eventually they get over the high knee action and smooth out that stride.

Can ya tell I absolutley love the babies:jump:

Spalding No!

Is that another Seinfeld reference?

First Foal by Curlin Dies

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/55288/first-foal-by-curlin-dies

Excerpt:

The filly, born Jan. 12 at Burleson Farms near Midway, Ky., was out of the Hawkster mare Zophie, dam of 2006 Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) winner Appealing Zophie. Lyn Burleson, owner and general manager of Burleson Farms, said the foal suffered a “paddock accident” Jan. 24 and was euthanized Jan. 29 after the injuries were “not repairable.”

:( :( :( Oh, this breaks my heart, it truely does. I'm sad for everyone connected with both the foal and her Dam...my heart aches for Appealing Zophie...her first baby and now she will have to deal with it's loss, which for most mares, is not easily done...
a paddock accident...one can only assume she somehow broke a leg...
jeeze...one of the saddest, most difficult things to deal with involving horses is the death of a foal.

R.I.P little one

Aww she is soo cute. Looks just Like papa  As an aside :

When Curlin was sold - after his Monster win in the Maiden Race ..the kids who had been riding and helping with Farm duties - since the day he was born -- had a comment or two.

After learning about the Sale ..the kids really broke down. Lots of tears and
when the interviews took place - the comment that got to me was ::

" We have never seen or been on a horse like him " **

What a dolt. Try reading all the posts next time. Unless of course you think Curlin looks dead too, then your comment is spot on. You picked this thread up a month late and still laid an egg. Sheesh

If BtC missed the update, perhaps we could a.) provide the info plainly, and b.) realize that the original poster will probably be saddened by the news and that, quite frankly, he/she doesn't really deserve to be berated? I think we're all equally disappointed about the unfortunate turn of events.

Just my two bits....besides, look at the picture: don't tell me you don't think he's cute, and that he doesn't look like dad. Perhaps that's all BtC meant.

All beatthechalk had to see was the two posts above the one he posted...one says 'sad news', the other mentions how hard it is for the mare to loose a foal.

Beatthechalk...somehow you missed that Curlin's first foal had died...but I would think that now you realize this and feel sad about the turn of events.

While I agree he/she should have probably seen it, I thought the response he got was pretty harsh. Especially considering what Beatthechalk was saying. There was no malice in anything he said. It is possible he/she didn't read the posts about the foal dying and just posted and moved on. Lots of people miss posts Joanied, as you know.

I'm all for laying into people that deserve it. I just didn't think this was deserved, IMO.

I did say in my post he must have missed it...as we all do once in a while...

"Beatthechalk...somehow you missed that Curlin's first foal had died...but I would think that now you realize this and feel sad about the turn of events."

And I beleive I was polite in my reply.

I won't get into anything else than anyone else may have posted.

The end.

Since you said "the end" does that mean I can't reply?

You were polite in your reply. As was I. If you read my post it had nothing to do with you at all. It was referring to the harsh reply Beatthechalk got.

The end.

Lots of folks come across the initial post and simply post a reply, not reading the rest of the thread...

The real end.
