According to the lawyer for several Gitmo detainees (http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/declassified/archive/2010/01/06/guantanamo-is-not-ever-going-to-be-closed.aspx), their clients feel they're better off staying at Gitmo, and may even sue to stay there and not be transferred to the supermax prison in Illinois. It seems they feel they have it better down there!
These guys aren't stupid, the weather is so much better in Cuba to boot.

Gosh you'd think that they'd want out of that hellish den of torture that has caused the US so much shame and given us a black eye according to Sheppard Smith.

what complete imbeciles we have running this country.

from Newsweek.

But the final irony is that many of the detainees may not even want to be transferred to Thomson and could conceivably even raise their own legal roadblocks to allow them to stay at Gitmo.

Falkoff notes that many of his clients, while they clearly want to go home, are at least being held under Geneva Convention conditions in Guantánamo. At Thomson, he notes, the plans call for them to be thrown into the equivalent of a "supermax" security prison under near-lockdown conditions.

"As far as our clients are concerned, it's probably preferable for them to remain at Guantánamo," he says.

Why these bloodthirsty basterds would be housed in a populous area is beyond comprehension. Maybe Alaska would be a better spot.

Having spent a winter in the vicinity of Thomson, I might file an amicus brief on the inmates' behalf.
