I don't normally bet Fair Grounds, but i was sitting around and this race came up, so i took a look at it on paper. Then, i noticed the 2 horse, Van Missiletoe looked excellent on the track to my eye. I made a very modest win and place bet and that was my only play on the race. VM got the lead, took some pressure, flicked off most of that pressure and was fighting to hold the lead down the stretch. The winner blew everyone's doors off and won going away as VM was trying to hold on for 2nd. Maybe my eyes are shot and i need a stronger pair of contact lens, but it appeared to me that the rider of VM just stopped riding halfway thru the stretch and never urged this horse to the wire.
Maybe it was a very weak urge but an urge nonetheless? I was looking for the "2 hand pump" to try and hold the place spot, but this jock looked motionless to my eye and got nailed for 2nd by a neck. There didn't appear to be a any urge whatsoever, jock sitting motionless.
Certainly doesn't inspire any confidence betting races at FG.
