OK, lets say they did play Manning for the full game last week and were able to overtake and beat the Jets. Guess what: there was NO way they'd play him and many other starters this week at Buffalo. RIght now, Bookmaker.com is listing them as 9 point dogs at Buffalo. Chances are if Buffalo shows up at all, they will win.
I know what some will say: IF they won last week, they'd go for the perfect season and with Manning and the regular cast of characters, they'd be far from a 9 point dog. Yes and no. Yes they wouldn't be underdogs but it never would've happened. Polian made himself clear on the subject awhile back.
BTW, does anyone remember the Seattle Mariners won something like 110 games in 2001. World Series losers? They didn't even make it that far. Its all about who wins that final game.
If they had decided to try to go undefeated, they would certainly be playing. I'm not ripping them for giving up on the undefeated season, I just don't think it was the right move. I do, however, understand the reasoning.

I guess I can sympathize with those who either were a) at the game or b) had fantasy players on the Colts. But even with b, the rumors were out all week. The spread (Colts -3) definitely reflected it. The only criticism is maybe the Colts management could've been a little more forthright, but you can only expect coaches to go so far.
If I was coaching them, I guess I would've played to win last week, but win or not, this week it would be Curtis Painter, Simpson at RB and Austin Collie as the lead WR.

All I know is that Ryan & the Jets are a huge fan of resting players. The Colts last week & more than likely Cincy this week. Not a bad deal when they have to win the last two to have a chance.

It was just sad to see Peyton on the sideline, helmet on, wanting to go back in the game and the crowd booing the young qb at home.
You got a shot at history, take it. This resting crap has killed the Colts so many times, that team should have three or more Super Bowl titles.
Since I'm a Bears fan, we don't run across that problem too often.

honestly it doesn't take much for me to critisize the colts  , but i think this is really a no win situation. i don't think they're super bowl material this year anyhow. they don't run the ball well enough or play good enough defense. winning in the playoffs and winning in the regular season are two different things in the nfl these days. just ask marino and the dolphins, and elway and the broncos before they actually got a running game. i think it'll be between the ravens (if they get their act together) and the chargers. i give the bengals an outside shot.

Couldn't disagree more. Best QB in football, and a solid defense. Colts and San Diego in AFC Championship game, winner of that one a great chance to win the whole enchilada, although Philly or Dallas been playing well of late-I give Saints little chance to get there even with home field................;)

On balance, if you're the Dolts- you do WHATEVER you need to do to secure the ONLY NFL goal- the Super Bowl.
Having said that, they might have played it out last week to beat the Jets or get up so much that they could have let the "idiot QB" in to buffoon it up... but too late to lose.
And then, there is this week:
Mini blizzard like conditions in Buffalo with high winds and sub freezing wind chills today ( that my daughter and friends are going to attend as their first NFL game  ) WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would allow them to play today, even @ 15-0 ?
On the other side, only my bungling, buffoon like Bills would TRY to get the W today, thereby going from possibly 5th in the draft to 10th !
