I can't make my final betting decision until I get the scratches.

Does anyone here make their final choices without having the scratches?

I usually make my decision on a horse right away. Scratches rarely affect my wager. Maybe if I am on a closer in a paceless race, and the "speed" is scrathed out of the race, I may pass.

Scratches may have a material effect on the relative winning chances of the remaining horses in the field. Perhaps it would not matter so much in isolating the one horse that was most likely to win (without considering odds). But, from a full-field value perspective, I would normally need that information.

I make my final betting decision two minutes to post; unless I have two tracks going off at the same time, then it's more like five minutes to post.

Ditto ! In fact rehandicap the races there are late scratches to see how it would affect the running of the race

The entire pace structure can change when certain strategic pace profiles are removed from the mix, thereby altering the match up for said race.
