A 12/23 article by Matt Hegarty on the DRF site paints a grim picture of any agreement coming together between TrackNet, the CD/Magna alliance that controls the two most important winter meet simo signals, SA and GP, and the Mid-Atlantic tracks.

I play at the "Favorites" OTW restaurant in Woodbridge, NJ, which like other Mid-Atlantic outlets, was not able to offer the CD fall meet and is currently not taking the Fair Grounds meet because an agreement was not reached.

Great opening day card at SA, but my gut tells me not to waste my time on it.

Any news?

if I was a betting man  , I'd say the chances of SA & Slotstream being available are slim & none...(& Slim left town!) It was sad & funny at the same time, watching TVG promote that they now had Churchill & Fair Grounds available for wagering & streaming video, yet TVG bettors in Mass. could bet neither, due to the ongoing dispute.

Bob:

I tend to agree. Without a signal from SA or GP, the track that will "clean up" big, IMHO, will be Tampa Bay Downs, with their full fields and newly minted 50 cent Tri's and Pick 4's.

I'm kind of confused as to whats going on with this. I went to delaware park today to bet and they said I couldnt bet on SA. So are all OTBs in the area (i live in Philadelphia) not simulcasting SA?

Correct. Around our parts AC Casinos and New York are the only places you can play SA, FG and if dispute continues GP and OP.

I wasn't aware of Oaklawn being part of the CD/Magna "Tracknet" alliance.

So we're at SA, FG, and GG with GP and Oak right around the corner as being unavailable for wagering.

Anyone else from Jersey want to meet at the Meadowlands and have our own races in the parking lot?

Tracknet Media is losing their grip, thanks to their own foolishness.

Players are usually against change, and often stick with playing tracks they are familiar with. However, once they venture out of their own comfort zone, they may be surprised to learn that they enjoy other tracks as well.

This dispute between Tracknet Media and the Mid-Atlantic tracks will end at some point when one side or the other gives in. What Tracknet fails to recognize is that once their track content becomes available again, players who return may come back with only a portion of their previous handle, with play continuing at these "newly found" tracks. I suspect tracks like Tam, Pha, etc. are currently enjoying a nice bump in their respective handles thanks to Tracknet.

Once lost, some things never return to their previous levels. Is it possible that Tracknet will someday come to understand that arrogance is a severe liability rather than a benefit? Let's hope so for all involved.

From Matt H's DRF article of December 24th.

Television Games Network and a simulcasting partnership owned by Churchill Downs Inc. and Magna Entertainment have resolved a dispute that threatened the availability of the opening-day signal from Santa Anita on TVG's account-wagering platform, the top official of the partnership said on Thursday morning.

Scott Daruty, the chief executive of the partnership, TrackNet Media, said that the dispute was resolved on Wednesday night. As a result, TVG will be able to continue to offer wagering on all the signals controlled by TrackNet, a list that includes Santa Anita, which opens on Saturday, and Gulfstream Park, which opens on Jan. 3.

Now all Tracknet needs to due is lower their demand for higher signal compensation from the mid-Atlantic track alliance, and many more players will be happy. For the player's sake, I hope this happens soon, but I have a feeling the gridlock will continue for some time.

From the mid-Atlantic track alliance standpoint, accepting a signal price increase now means having to fight another potential signal increase in every following year from those arrogant folks at Tracknet. It is better to take a stand now when the signal price is lower. Simply tell Tracknet to go pound sand!!

(Can you tell I do not like Tracknet?  )

For the tracks with slots and table games, it isn't hard to lose 15% of handle and still keep 95% of gross revenues coming in. They probably just cut tellers and racing staff and go about their merry business.

For tracks in New Jersey, this is like pulling the tube out of a dying patient. Add in the fact that AC casinos have the tracks and 10 miles away ACRC does not and they are barely breathing.

The ultimate result will come when they settle and find customers have either decided to move on to other tracks, or even other games. Racetrack Management accepts the fact that the bulk of their customers are losing money, but does not realize that given a gap, they find other things to gamble on and do not come back.

Losing the Fair Grounds was a knife to the heart for turf lovers and losing Santa Anita and Gulfstream will basically just cut it out entirely. Tracknet will reap the benefits of a bigger share of a smaller handle. I wish I could attend one of their stock holder meetings and explain the stupidity of this to them.

Or perhaps the SAME SIZE SHARE of a smaller handle due to customers that they "encourage" to bet elsewhere. :D Stupid actions should naturally and logically lead to stupid results.

The management at Tracknet are not smart enough to understand that rising prices (when alternatives are available) are a sure way to reduce revenue. Even when they dissolve or become insignificant they will try to point the finger of blame at somewhere other than themselves.
