It was a good list (IMHO), I might have mixed Barbaro in there over a couple of the others.

But, different question, best looking horse you have ever seen in person.

Mine, before a race he lost by the way, was Lost Code.

Wow, what a nice looking, big, really black horse - looked awesome and lost.

I think this was his race at Monmouth after the big showdown with Bet Twice and Alysheba (but I'm not 100% on that).

both alydar and affirmed. at the preakness no less. although that preakness cured me of wanting to be at the track preakness day :D if i go to pimlico i usually go to the pimlico special or the black eyed suzie card. preakness day is spent home in front of the computer and tv nowadays.

Best looking-a tie- Unbridled and Summer Squall. Both were at Arlington during their 3 yr. old summer. Also, a sprinter named Astro, trained by Bill Cesare, was the epitome of what a fit/strong racehorse should look like.

Affirmed, Slew and his best son Slew O'Gold were grand looking creatures.

For smallish ones, Lady's Secret looked great

For me Buckpasser is the standard. Ruffian wasn't too bad and Zenyatta is a pretty damn good looking mare. To each his own, but Affirmed wasn't close to Alydar in looks.

Tikkanen prior to the 1994 BC at Churchill. Don't think I'll ever see a horse look as good as he did that week.

On the distaff side, Manistique when John Sherriffs brought her to Keeneland for a few weeks before she was retired. She was huge but perfectly proportioned.

The best looking horse I ever saw was a first timer in a maiden 5000 claimer. He ran dead last. He couldn't run a lick, but he sure looked good. Thats what women used to say about me execpt for the looking good part.

Don't think you'll get much argument about Buckpasser. Didn't see him in the flesh but I did get an up close look at Ruffian. Made my jaw drop. Remember thinking, that is ONE...BIG...BEAUTIFUL GIRL!

El Roblar. Best looking horse i've ever seen up close. Perfect specimen.

Check out his win on May 3, 2008 at hollywood in Race 5 (Calracing.com)

The video goes on for at least 6 minutes, there's some great closeups of this horse galloping back to the winners circle.

Big Brown - Had big ears and was a fine looking thoroughbred (in person)

Rock Hard Ten- Another very big thoroughbred (in person)

Any Given Saturday- I called him a pop tart-smallish horse (in person)

Birdstone- My nemesis--a little tyke--looked like a pony (in person)

Joey P. - Dark bay almost black with a shade of brown around his mouth-unique (in person)

Bernardini
Rock Hard Ten
Point Given
Fusaichi Pegasus
Tiznow
Curlin
Midnight Lute
Medaglia d'Oro
Bellamy Road
Quality Road
Zenyatta
Cesario
Beautiful Pleasure
Rachel Alexandra
Sweet Catomine
Rags to Riches
Eight Belles
Fleet Indian
Six Perfections
Halfbridled
The above is the 2 lists BH provided (disregard the numbers)...and it's nearly impossible for me to pick the top 3 from each list...instead of the photos they provided, they shoulda used conformation shots...oh, well. (I was surprised Empire Maker isn't on the colts list...wasn't he in this decade? He was gorgeous!

Anyway...without actually looking them up, to refresh my memory, I can't think of any others to add to the lists...although, I'm sure there are several....a few that Stevie B mentioned...especially No Biz like Showbiz, would be there.

From the lists, my top 3 for colts and the fillies would be:
Point Given
Curlin
Fu Peg

Zenyatta
Eigth Belles
Halfbridled

Wow.I don't have the depth of experience as some of you to have 10 or more horses on the list. But Zenyatta is the biggest and best looking horse I have seen. She was a freak.

Angel Penna trained a turf horse a few years ago named Whale that was just striking in person. He was pretty talented, yet very fragile and I know Penna had a hard time keeping him healthy. He was also huge, which if I had to guess is why he was named Whale.
