Very excited. This is going to be my first handicapping tournament EVER. Although I don't play at the big M at all, I'm gonna give this a go.

Too bad that don't offer this at Mohawk or The Meadows :p

How many people usually register to participate in this contest? Approx...?

Ray2000
12-29-2009, 06:02 AM
If memory serves (and it doesn't), somewhere between 2000-3000 people in last year's Winter Contest. Almost half were eliminated by week 2. This year nobody gets dumped.

BTW
Check out USTA's Handicappers, Nash and Pandolfo for extra great information and picks.

Damn Ray! 2-3,000, wow! I would have expected less than 1,000 saying the real NHHC event only has about 100-200 entrants.

This will be exciting.

I think I'm also going to show up at a NHHC Qualifier @ The Meadowlands to try and win a spot.

I've been waiting to turn 18 to finally join some capping tournys, and now here comes the biggest tourny of the year right around the corner. Could it be a more perfect time?

I'm in and i'm glad you can't get eliminated. The last few contests ive done I got caught up with my job too much that I would forget to make picks.

Yeah, I'm excited too! It'd be awesome to get a spot in the NHHC for free.

Ray
Just joined up and in my email received the verbage as follows:

snip/
However, to continue in the game, entrants have to “survive” by finishing in-the-money [first through third] with at least one of their selections each day. Failing to do so, or not making selections knocks the player out of the game. A new addition to the game is the “lucky horseshoe.” The lucky horseshoe is a “free pass” given to all Challenge participants that allows the player to survive if he does not make selections for a race card or all three of his selections fail to hit the board. If a player survives until February 9, he earns an additional lucky horseshoe.
/snip

But in their rules on the site:
"The Challenge is a non-elimination challenge"

I would have to say that we go by the rules on the site and not the rules we get via email..

Thx RTD

I didn't get that email, when I tried to re-register "Shellgame" like it says to do...it wouldn't let me, I was still in the game from last contest.

I did get their promo email today and it says

"All players continue until the end of the game; there is no elimination."

No safe bets necessary this year...Bombs Away..

I'm tied for First Place:jump:

Here's my 1st longshot.............. TimmyT and Asgoodasioncewas

Good Luck Everybody

Tom,

3600 contest players, it's going to be a long haul....:)

And after tonight, there are 186 contest races.

A long haul indeed.

BTW, I know very little about harness racing but I am in the contest anyway, so you only have to worry about 3,599 contest players. :D

I see Tom-Oh beat me to the punch. I have the finger dexterity of a fish.

Yeah Ray, I agree....What "Junk" races are being offered....haha....Hard to take most of these races seriously....They are mostly races that I would "never" play...

Tom-Oh

These races are terrible for a contest... They're all up in the air races... Even the ones with bigtime ML favorites look like they can be upsetted by 10-1's or worse....

fmolf----I think Dave Brower book is good reading for newcomers to s-breds. Worth the price IMO. Also you can read Bob Pandolfo handiccapping archives at ustrotting.com. Bob Pandolfo "Pandy" a long time pro at harness and does a nice job. Best of all fmolf read "Markgoldie" posts here at this site. That guy knows his s-breds and expresses himself very well. You CANNOT go wrong reading his informative posts.

Tom-Oh

Also, I have some long shot picks for tomorrow night selected... I'll post my picks at 6:30 tomorrow night.

I have been reading hisposts him and i have a repoire on the t bred side.....i have been following and wagering on t breds for over 35 yrs.I used to go to roosevelt raceway as a boy with my grandpa but i was too young to bet.I see now what you mean tom about these races wed night.Might as well put the numbers in a hat and pick one out for each race.
some of marks posts are a little bit too advanced for me at this moment but i am beginning to get the basic idea behind trips ...one over ...parked out....racing with cover etc...etc...What does "on the rim mean"?
